Visiting from St. Louis

Hey guys, I will leaving St. Louis and flying into Denver on 5-22 and staying for 6 days in Boulder. Wondering if you all might have any must see's and/or tips. Also, I would love to rent a jeep and tour. My uncle is living 10 minutes from boulder and has a Estes pass. I know riverfever came to st. louis last year. I remember the A/C problem. Most of the high stuff will still be snowbound by that date. Scenery wise, just get a car, head up to Nederland, then head north to Estes Park/Rocky Mtn. Park then back.

It wasn't so much the A/C as it was the rear main, oil pan gasket, auxillary fan, and my general piss poor attitude for St. Louis. :laugh: I was born and raised there and she drug me back to see her parents last year. I was hoping to avoid it this year but it's not lookin' good. Mostly I hate the drive to get there. Once I'm there, it's not so bad hanging out with old friends. I'll definitely fish some of my old spots this time.

I'm not near Denver so I can't be of much help with good stuff to see up that way. Listen to Tom though: All the really cool stuff up high will be off limits b/c we got a lot of snow this year. Estes is beautiful and would be cool to see. Do you fish? If you head down south near Colorado Springs, yell.

You don't necessarily need a jeep or 4wd to do a lot of exploring. Most of the roads running though the mtns are graded smooth and passable with 2wd as long as there isn't any snow. A lot of the higher elevation trails will still have considerable snow, but the ones in the immediate foothills are probably fine.

Downtown Boulder is really fun, lots of places to eat/drink. Plenty of places to hike/bike/climb/fish nearby. If it is warm out walk around campus to see the hotties shedding the winder clothes. When driving around, watch out for bikes and pedestrians. They think and act like they own the place. They will walk/ride through a crosswalk without looking or stopping.

Thanks guys, that pic looks awful when compared to trhe weather here, we have had rain, drizzle and mud for the last couple days. :wierd:
My wife's cousin is getting married on the Sun. 27th and we are coming out early. Been to Breckenridge a couple years ago and loved it, right after new years. Learned to ski that trip and have been wanting to go back ever since.

old_man I will be checking out the park for sure. A friend of mine said Arapaho Basin may even have skiing left that time of year.

Riverfever I dont do much fishing but, I will have pc with me out there and may invade if I have some time. Where are your spots around here?

RTicUL8 Are you in/around Boulder? I do want to drive a Rubi!!!

By far...my favorite spot was a little farm pond in a place called Queeny Park. It was tucked way in the back of the park and I always got the strangest looks from people when they saw me walking back that way with my fly rod. There are too many largemouth bass in the pond and so they don't get bigger than a pound and a half but the crappie are 12-14" and a blast to catch on ultr-light gear or a 5wt. There are also massive grass carp that you can have a crack at all summer long in the early morning and late evening. They cruise around super slowly and you have to place the fly where you THINK they'll be. I have more but that's the best memory I have in St. Louis for fishing. The rest of my time was spent south near the Lesterville area chasing smallmouth. I could go on for days though. Let me know if you come down this way DJ.

I am an online member of MWJT. I have a DD lifted for malls and an 88 that I am going to lift for trails maybe. I haven't had any time or much place to do wheeling over the last year and thats how long I have the xj bug. Usually ride alkong with my buddy in has trail striped 94 xj. I float around the mwjt site sometimes though. my user id there is neeser77. I know of queeny park, I live in Edwardsville IL out by Holiday lake and my Nephews fish all summer here. The fishing tourney is coming up in a couple weeks.

Joe, your post snuck by me earlier. I will definately go by campus :lickout:
I live near a university that I atteded and the crosswalks were always a hazzard, people looking down or reading, or just not caring. I hear there is a good night life downtown, and I really want to do a little hiking and maybe biking, I know the area is beautiful and I want to take it in because I dont know when I will be able to get back again eace:

P.S. My uncle in running construction jobs for SM Wilson. Anyone working for them out there? Would be a small world.

I used to bass fish at Lake Carlyle a lot. Me and my friends hit a lot of the farm ponds as well.

Man I miss bass fishing.

Yeah sure Pablo....I've fished Carlyle. I'm trying to remember some of the other stuff I used to fish over there. It was mostly small farm ponds that I had permissions to be on and I wasn't throwing flies back then.

Nobody fished the ponds around where I lived so we'd catch 8-9 pound Largemouth. Always a shocker bringing in a lunker.
