been driving the jeep for weeks without vibes. took it up to snow country this last friday with some freinds and on the way back the vibes came back, the only thing ive done differently was throw it in 4 hi for some snow fun for a short time maybe 20 mins, other than that everythings the same. greased up the driveshafts and front suspension pretty good. im a little confused.

im just hoping these new axles may solve it.
on the new 30 im doing ball joints, bushings and maybe the unit bearings too.
and of course a new track bar and some new lca's.
im so sick of vibes and it was a major tease to drive it for weeks without em. im just venting because im a little bummed that they are back.
anyone want to test drive my junk if i drive it to their house????
theres nothing in the steering just loud as hell and vibes starting at like 55mph...once again. Hasta

im starting to think its not the axles / driveshafts...

have you drained and changed the t-case fluid and looked for chunks yet?

supposedly wheels are in great balance. im gonna drain the t case and pull the front shaft, i recently threw it back on before teh last trip. then ill go from there. i might take the tires in again as well.

Vibes at 55mph? My junk just about vibrates itself apart at 65. The vibes start at about 55. Getting lower gear ratios in your axles will make the vibes worse, the driveshafts spin faster at the same given road speed with lower gears.

I wish I could help you out, but I'm a bit too far away for a road test.

yah i figured the lower gears are gonna make it alot worse. but if i can only go 55 now, i figured 45 (on a ungeared speedo so probably like 58 and 47, im trying to eek out vibeless mph like some try to eek out mpg)

wont be bad and at least ill have 4.88s, at least ill be good at going slow then and maybe with some 33's the vibes will stay around 50mph-55mph...
.... or maybe ill figure out the problem eventually...

im hoping by pure luck the newer axles with the new bushings and ball joints, etc... and some other new suspension and steering components will help out, then im gonna save up to buy some new tires, then maybe replace the output shaft somewhere in between and redo the h&t, and maybe after that pull off the tranny and start looking at it.
im hoping itll end up being that ive had two bad sets of used tires in a row or a bent rim that no shop noticed yet.....yah right....
or maybe axle wrap so im throwing in a stock leaf into each pack for some extra help back there to see if that helps.
but it would be nice

by the way i feel alot better that other people have vibes too, i feel like its an AA meeting,hi im jon..... and i have vibes

I'm going to be working on junk the morning of the 10th if you can make it out, even if we don't get your vibes figured out you can have a good laugh at how crapppy Green Junk is.

And my tires are off, at least the rears so far, so you can see if unbalanced 35s make a difference at all.

cool that is awesome phil, ill be there unless something weird comes up

Hi my name is keith, and i have vibes.

Only at like 65 and up though, so I keep it just under there and get better mpg then when i went faster.

If this is true: gonna drain the t case and pull the front shaft, i recently threw it back on before teh last trip .

Have you tried running it without the front drive shaft to see if that is the issue?

If you have tried that already, sorry.

Sometimes it is best to isolate one thing at a time or just go back to where you started.

Good luck.

i ran it for a few months without the front shaft, still had vibes for a bit, then re-installed the rear again one day after all teh other stuff and they went away.
i am probably going to pull the front shaft again to see if it helps for any reason, maybe its a tire/rim issue?
i thought it was axle wrap before
that was after all the other stuff i thought it was...
i dunno...

i dont know about vibes yet, but i swapped in the axles that have been sitting in my garage over the past two days. 4.88s, detroit rear, posi front, new ball joints(took me five nights of hell to finish right) , some new brake parts, new RE fixed lcas and track bar(thanks to billy) and new coils thanks to opie(i decided to give my freind bill the rustys lcas and rustys coils) and fresh alignment by me, along with freshly bled brakes, tightened exhaust manifold bolts, cleaned out intake, etc etc, it drives around the block amazingly! tons of balls, i dot even care if i get vibes at 55 anymore !!! i did notice that during the overhaul that one of the drivers side unitbearing/hub bolts was loose and one wasnt amazingly tight either, so that hub moving around could have been causing the vibes. im interested to see what the non disco shafts on teh 30 will do, for now i just plugged the vacuum lines. also i had to throw on new rotors to fit the new unit bearings/shafts from the junkyard with 297 joints. i now have 5 spare rotors in great shape for a cherokee that fir the older shafts with the smaller hubs if anyone wants one... ill let you guys know how it does on the freeway. one thing about the RE 3.5" coils is that they along with one more stock isolator seemed to net me over 5" of lift up front now, but it looks real good with the yj flares so i think ill keep it for now....

first off thanks for bearing with my dumbass seirra chapter even though i only know some of you, im sure this thread is annoying after the second time...... test drove it on the freeway today. speedo is way off for now, but with the 31's it felt like 60-65 at prob high 2's maybe 3k rpm's driving like a dream with no vibes. during the tear down i noticed one of the driver side hub bolts was loose one wasnt a little looser than that and one was tight. im guessing that was like 100% of the prob and i feel stupid, esp since i mostly noticed it originating from the front drivers side even after replacing the brakes i didnt notice it! anyway i love the new handling and power, and vibeless 65mph 3000rpm freeway cruising. now its time for some more herculiner, starting the bumpers, cage, new windsheild and some ruffstuff 5/8" u bolts and plates and better uca's, basically a bunch of easy shit now! ive had way to much damn coffee today and way too much beer last night. the only thing is i will run the 31's for a while.

I have a friend in Phoenix that just went through almost as much as you have to fix his vibes, just to find out that his tires needed to be re-balanced! Oh well, that's how it goes sometimes! At least the vibes are gone!

Glad to hear you found the problem, Jon. Sounds like a jumbo tube of lock tight and a day of checking bolts would go a long way... In the end it is always the simple things we beat ourselves over the head with.

Congrats, let's hope they are gone for good. You went through heck on that issue.

4.88's on 31's must be interesting. For around town, it should be nice, but it would most likely get old quick on the highway.

I would like to check out your yj flare installation. I have two projects in Sacramento, South Watt Ave. and Richards and 16th, maybe I could meet up with you down there sometime.

actually on the freeway its not too bad, around town is nice. i feel like 5.29s and 31's would be a bit excessive though....
but i do need to replace my exhaust manifold gasket and extract a broken bolt from it, im sure when i do that with the extra power ill be hating it, but for now i love the 4.88s and 31's on the freeway because im going roughly 60mph and roughly 3k rpm with no vibes. of course my speedo says im doing 85 when im prob doing 55 but other than that im used to being in the slow lane at 60, but now it drives like a boat with no vibes. my yj flares are only up front so far, i did a very "simple" half assed install. 1 bolt up front, one in teh rear and one in the middle. i only have em there so chp has one less reason to pull me over. there is a small gap between the flare and the body but i can care less. i also rhinolined my lower half of the jeep. im considering rhino lining the whole thing as a funny joke.

oh and im always down to meet up with jeepers! but i may talk your ear off, just ask billy....hahahaha

and if they come back i figured the only solution : im buying a damn tow rig. problem solved....jk

now we need to have a meet an greet so i can drive my jeep instead of my car!
