so i'm starting to window shop for something for jana to drive that is a little more economical than our 6.5 diesel.

i've decided to either get a small BMW or Rabbit convertible or a compact SUV

something smaller than a cherokee.

i prefer a soft top and would consider a removable hard top, and to a certain extent, even just a plain ol hard top rig.


so far i'm really leaning towards the geo tracker/sidekick but surprisingly they are almost worth as much as a clean, unmolested samurai.

i've also considered an amigo but then thats right at the border line of too big.

any ideas on some small SUV's that i should be searching for?

So basically from what Im reading here.....you're looking for either a CJ or a YJ and didn't know it! Just sayin!.....

I love the Liberty we got. Paid 1k for it with a blown engine in GREAT shape. Put a new one in it and have loved it ever since. I've got about 2900 in it so far.

Moral of the story:

Be patient.

I know you search craigslist more than any other person alive. You'll find a deal. Look for something that needs some work. I mean, last week you posted a link to a pair of XJs for 800 bucks. The red one was an easy fixer and the other one was good for parts. I've been seriously contemplating buying a fixer upper for a 1k or so every couple months, fixing it and selling it for a 100% profit...

Joe, you might see if Jana likes early to mid nineties Saab's. I have seen a couple sell for that $1k price range. I think some of them are all wheel drive as well. They are also a safe car.

Or, an older Audi. Those are known to have one of the best all wheel drive systems ever made.
