Was looking for some Dexron VI for tranny/tcase supply and saw this on the shelf, Multi-Vehicle Transfer Case Fluid

Can't find anything about it. It looks and smells like heavier weight tranny fluid, like maybe its just a blend of surplus or something. Could see it being optimized for transfer cases but you'd think they would say something about what's optimal vs any kind of 5W ATF. Maybe they are aiming at the new GM transfer cases?

I'm going to keep buying Dexron VI but I'm a little curious about it. Anybody got a clue?

The bottle is silver like their full synthetic line and it states compatibility with GM/Ford applications. Could be an alternative for dealer fluids for newer vehicles. I could not find any spec sheets to compare against regular ATF.

I sent a PM to Valvoline on facebook and this is what they wrote back

There isn't specifically a viscosity or weight to transfer case fluids, however we are happy to provide that this is 5.9-6 cSt oil, meaning that it's approximately about a 20 weight oil, much like an ATF.

The differences with this product and other transmission fluids, is that this product has been tested and is recommended for use where the GM Autotrak II and Ford XL-12 specifications are recommended. Many ATF products cannot make those claims.
So it looks like they are basically pursuing the newer transfer cases that have special fluids

I use Amsoil Universal ATF.

Yup. I've been buying everything except motor oil (running Rotella T6) on amazon lately to make sure I get the right stuff. Even the "green" coolant you buy in the store is full of additives and whatever for newer cars. All the new lubricants are super slippery and just aren't good enough for older applications.

I've been using locally purchased Zerex Original Green Antifreeze?

I use Redline everything except in Porsche water cooled flat sixes, for those I use Gibbs Racing DT-40
