v8 guys mpg braggin rights!!

I'm thinking the mirrors are actually a factory option?

In any case, CLEAN swap! Lovin' the TPI, the L89 is a 5.7/350 with aluminum heads, right?

Our suburban with the L05 gets around 16mpg with the 700r4, how is that? It has a holley 2bbl TBI, with valve body mods on the tranny, but otherwise a fresh (under 50K) crate 350.
TBI is less efficient than TPI or other MPFI for that matter. Also weighs as much as a tank.

As much as I enjoyed my 3rd gen camaro with a mild built 350TPI, unless you really P&P the intake a runners well, that high end just is not there, but good for a Jeep with the LOW end TQ for sure.

As for LSx motors, the best way now I would say to get good power for a low price and durability, would be a LQ4/9 out of a GM fullsize. It is a cast-iron block, and you can swap the LS intake on it. Between the 2 the LQ4 has lower compression but makes the same power.

well yeah I figured out the efficiency thing, but how can the suburban get nearly the same mpg? It's a big lumbering beast, but we romp the hell out of it at all times.

I suppose that's the beauty of the LSx line then? An ohv, pushrod engine, with large amounts of low end torque, but the amazing ability to breathe well up to redline (in the 8k, right?).

I haven't heard or had it suggested that the LSx alloy blocks aren't durable, so your suggestion of the LQ line is strictly for the price tag being much lower, right? It'll affect power/weight, but it's a jeep! haha. You said you can swap the LS intake, but what about the heads?

The 5.3 is a LS platform, iron block that should do great. You can swap LS1 heads onto it, and it should do great.

I have seen some guys flog the crap out of the LS1 and 6 blocks. You have to work to do a lot of damage.

Yes, you can swap everything. And the alum LSx blocks can handle decent power, but the cast iron blocks can hand much more. The alum blocks do not take kindly to mass HP and Forced Induction. When I do a full build, I plan on using the GMPP cast-iron LSx block.. bored/stroked to 427ci (can go all the way to 511ci-ish), but at 427 cubes, can utilize the ls7 aftermarket parts.
But, like i said also, cost is lower for complete LS-style cast-iron engine vs the actual LS'

i think this guy keeps boasting about this cherokee, and he hasn't turned the first wrench on it.

i could be completely wrong, and there is nothing wrong with buying a built jeep. but if you do theres no need to start threads about your "built v8 jeep done right"...and if you did build it sweet...lets see some build pics for the process. id be interested to see how you did it

It is worth ripping ur 4.0 out or not to stroker build.

Myself I am a bit confused by this question of his. Seems like he just wants to show off his XJ with a V8... I don't see what this has to do with the 4.0L what so ever.

No i didnt turn the first wrench on this vehicle. And i am showing it off because i dont see anyother xj's on here with a nice clean setup that isnt outrageous horsepower or only built for a trail rig. I daily drive my jeep and i offroad it. If you think um a person that doesnt know how to turn a wrench or hasnt done a project in there life then your wrong. Its nice to buy something that isnt built halfassed and one of a kind.

It is a built jeep and it is done right even if i didnt personally piece it together just looking for feedback and questions. Um saying if ur gonna rebuild a 4.0 to a stroker bang for buck you might as well put a v8 in.

Yeah! How can you show us this stuff? Then we want it too. We think we're so cool because we have big inline six's instead of 4 bangers. What the hell, Dude. You're ruining my delusion! LOL! Key issue though......V8=$20,000.....4.6 stroker=$2000......And that leaves $18,000 for lockers and gas money. Have fun at Silver Lake!

Yeah, because its just that simple to dump a V8 in an XJ. Along with satisfying emissions requirement and engine year specifications. Not to mention that on the 98+ XJs you would need to basically replace the entire dash cluster with a custom setup. Besides, what is the point to your question if you already have a V8 in it? Are you planning to replace with a stroker?

And it is "I'm" not "Um"

yea, your V8 is an exception not the rule. Most 350s out there have worse HP and torque numbers than a stroker, yet cost more to install used than a NEW stroker would cost.

do not get me wrong I would love to build a nice LSx platform for a jeep, but the best bang for the buck lies in a stroker.

You dont sound like your asking for feedback or questions. You sound like your just showin off and saying your V8 jeep is the best. And sorry to say it but its kind of annoying that your showing off and saying things like "Here is my v8 jeep done right!!" when you didnt even build it. And why would you say its worth not building a stroker. You havent built a stroker or your own rig so how would you know? Its cool and all but you didnt do anything. Just cant see being super proud of something just because I bought it. :dunno: at least when it comes to a jeep cherokee. Anyways yeah im jealous. Have fun in it!! I would recomend actually using it also, not just taking it on easy trails where you wont ever scratch it.

i just wanted to show you guys my jeep to show u a nice install and maybe get some questions about it. Not a grammar class or someone thinks that it cost 20gran to put a v8 in a jeep that is how much the jeep labor and all parts included. Um not hear to debate with stroker people. But with v8's will make more power plain and simple. It funny how in any thread that i write to show off something i get jealous dick heads that feed off of it and cant keep there mouth shut and just say thats a nice find and ask questions about it.

Just cause i didnt build it doesnt mean shit. I am proud i bought it and i thought i would share it with u guys to see a nice built rig done. Not get nit picked because i didnt build it. The jeep u bought was built in a factory so u didnt technically build it.Hasta

I dont have to prove to u arrogant assholes that i have done alot of projects in my life just cause i bought something already built. Just remember guys its better to buy something built instead of building it and losing ur ass. I lost 20grand on my srt4 i built.

Haha well if you cant build anything yourself than I guess you should just buy built rigs. Most people here do it themselves and with help from friends thats all. How did you lose 20 grand on your Srt4? Im just curious. Im not trying to be an asshole either. I think the internet is just a terrible way of conversing with other people because you cant be sarcastic or funny or show any emotion other than some stupid smileys. Well at least I cant do any of these things because I am a terrible writer haha.

that is true about internet conversing. Um not trying to rub my jeep in ur faces just a nice built jeep that i didnt build. I had an 05 srt4 for 3 years. Bought it used with 7,000miles for 21 gran. Put another 10gran in aftermarket stg3 turbo kit and about all bolts ons rims, hood, all the goodies and sold it for 11gran. So i loss alot more. I figured ill buy something built and robb somebody else and break even. I do have a 89 jeep cherokee that was a backyard only beater that i made road legal. No carpet, did new wiring harness and dash, replaced everything, swap in a new clutch, and a newer axle 8.25 456 with lockers. Offroad shit is just to expensive to build on ur own unless u have lots of time and money and plan on keeping it forever. I thought i was keeping my neon forever and look what happened i lossed alot of money. I know how much work went into this jeep i have alot of respect and gratitude for who put it together.
