In preparation for this race on the Colorado Trail, I've been getting a lot of 6 hour days in on the mountain bike but I'm getting bored with repeating the same trails to get that much time on the bike. I never knew there was a trail that went almost all the way around Pikes Peak (Ring the Peak Trail) until the other day. So I'm gonna do the whole thing (70ish) miles in a day. I'm just making sure I know where it goes so I can minimize the chances of getting lost. The only issue I'm having right now is one down near Manitou Springs.
The Intemann Trail ends right at Ruxton (just a bit down the hill from the Cog Depot). I am then supposed to get on the Ute Indian Trail and take that as it drops down to the gate across 24 from Waldo Canyon. My issue right now is that I can't confirm where Ute Indian Trail is.
In that general area is the Barr Trail, the Incline and (I believe) the UIT. Does anyone know if the UIT lies to the right of the Incline (as you're walking up the incline? I think I was on it today but it wasn't marked. It started out at the base of the Incline and then gradually went to the right up a steep dirt road before it turned to singletrack near the top and powerlines. Can anyone confirm where the trail is? I'm guessing Barr Trail and Incline see more action than UIT does and this trail I was on was not pretty (overgrown) and I definitely felt like I was in kitty territory. Apparently a lion got a dog and a deer last month right there.
