Golden Spike is usually run from south to north as part of a long combination trail that includes Poison Spider and Gold Bar Rim. If you are planning on running all three it is a good idea to start at 8am or earlier as they add up to 20+ miles of low range driving. This is the trail where the world famous Golden Crack is found.
The .gpx file includes the 4 main trails in this area, the map shows Golden Spike and its relationship to the other three nearby trails. Click here for the file: http://www.naxja.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=780&d=1206983763
Waypoints corrospond to Charles Wells' Guide to Moab, UT Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails, Second Edition and are labeled as follows:
Some of the things you will see on this trail:
The Launch Pad
Various ledges
Watch out for Body Snatcher- the ledge on the right that likes quarter glass.
I always get a laugh when people have a huge list of mods to to in order to "get ready for Moab". For these kids that involved simply removing the bumpers from thier dad's car in camp and hitting the trail.
