Upper shock mount help

I started to remove my rear shocks this weekend and ran into trouble. The drivers side upper shock bolts twisted off and the passengers side upper shock bolts threaded insert just spins. I have no idea what to do and need some ideas.

Cut the bolts and you can get some nuts in there with a boxed angle wrench

On the ones that twisted off can I just drill them out.

I think you can just get a punch and hammer em through. Im pretty sure that's what I did and just replaced the bolts and added washers and nuts.

I drilled all 4 of mine and tap them the next size up.

None of the nuts came loose.

This is what most of us do.

Use a punch and hammer or air chisel to break the welds on the nuts that snapped. And cut the bolts on the ones that spin. Then just use new nuts and bolts to re attach the shocks.

wear glasses when you start hammering away under there, lotsa shit to fall in your eyes and make the procedure more aggravating than it needs to be.
literally takes all of a few minutes to punch em out and replace with new hardware :clap:

I prefer this solution to the frozen/rusted/seized/broken upper rear shock nut/bolt.

After you remove the shock weld nuts with a punch, you can feed replacement bolts in from above by fishing them through the cross member with a wire attached to a piece of string, taped to a new bolt.

Then you can slide your open end wrench into the cross member and onto the head of the bolt, while you tighten the new shock retaining nut from below.

X2. I just did this on the womans jeep. Super fast and so much easier than drilling. I just tied some string to the bolt tho and fed the bolt thru.
