Up grade steering gear?

Good question

I want to do this myself, but only heard of one out of a Dodge Durango in an XJ. I don't know what was involved or how much beefer it is. Mine is leaking at the seal for the steering shaft, and I would just as soon get something else if it is an upgrade. I would also like to know the advantage of an ARG box over stock.

Come on guys help us out!!!!!!!!!!!! :helpme: :helpme: :helpme: :helpme:

from what i understand the agr box is no better then stock (that is just what i have gathered from :NAXJA: )

i have heard of the durango box but i think it takes a little moding to make it fit.

beezil always says one out of a j10 (or maybe j20?) is a direct fit.

do a search (i never thought i would say that :D) there was a post on this about a week ago.

One good upgrade is a jeep j20 steering box from the early 80's, i think mine is from a 79????, and all the fittings are the same and the steering shaft appear to be the same, so it shoudl bolt right in. It has approx. a 3.5" piston while the stock has a 3" piston. The AGR box IS a revamped J20 box. So I guess you can say the AGR box is no better than a stock J20 box, but it IS better than the stock XJ box. _nicko_

This is only runor, but I caught across the idea of using a Camaro box, one with the Sports steering.

What year? We have a 68 out in the garage I can try to check out. I have a feeling that's a bit too old though.
