Undercoating advice

If anyone has followed the Project Tech Snob (updates long overdue) .... I had to remove POR & Bedliner that refused to stick to the metal. :tears:

In the mean time, I've stripped it back to bare metal and painted with ZeroRust followed by Farm/Tractor paint. My only concern is potential paint chipping from tossed stones (in the wheel wells and parts of the floor). I have no wanting to use bedliner because of it's permanancy and the fact that the rig will probably continue to evolve.

All that said ... I'm looking for an undercoating similar to the OE stuff. The closest I found was a tar / non rubberized product from a company called ProForm. Of course --- they discontinued it. :hang:

Do any of the body guys have some suggestions on a good undercoating that will (within reason) firm up and not smear when people touch it? I've used stuff that was still gooey a week later. Body shutz has proven too brittle from past experience. I've read about using roofing tar (or was that roofing glue) and just brushing it on.

I'd really like to get this part of the project finished soon --- so any input is valued and I will be able to proceed towards the finish line.

Thank you !

I used roofing tar on all my seams underneath from where I've replaced parts of my floor pan. I has been holding up nicely.. I applied it with a caulk gun and gloved hand..
It does take a couple weeks to firm up.
