Uhaul Trailer plug....help

Ok, so when I bought my Jeep, the guy told me it had a factory tow hitch...awesome right?.....WRONG!!! Come to find out it is a Uhaul hitch, AND wiring kit. Luckily, it seems as though whoever installed it, actually did it right. Must not have been done by Uhaul!

Anyways, I am debating on whether or not to go to a class 3 hitch, it now has a class 2 hitch rated at 3500lbs....so should I bother?

Secondly, the plug is some weird looking plug I've never seen before and it says "for uhaul trailers" right on the plug. At first glance, it looked like a 4 way flat would plug in, but I don't see how it could after looking closer. Do they make adapters for these? I have searched ebay, and uhaul's website but can't come up with anything. I don't want to cut and splice unless I have to. Any advice???

Your'e the one that can tell if you need a class 3 reciever,as for the adapter why not get a new one,do you need brakes or a charging source for the trailer?

Nope, don't need brakes or a charging source for a trailer....mostly will be towing jet skis and utility trailer.

Pretty sure that the U-Haul plug is just a specialty plug that goes into a four-flat connector, if memory serves. I have one in the toolbox that I can check on if you need.

Yes, assuming you have a typical 4-pin connector on the trailer side.

Not sure why you're so down on the U-Haul hitches. I've never heard of anyone having problems with them. Install quality will depend on the particular franchise you patronized though.

I guess because I have seen Uhaul hitches installed that come into my shop, and 90% of the time, they are a hack job! ESPECIALLY the wiring!!!

Wait, you deal with hitch installs in your shop and you came here asking about the plug?

I have seen some buggered UHaul wiring jobs that resulted from the customer going to rent a trailer and discovering they needed a hitch or wiring installed right then&there. To me it looked like the UHaul shop didn't have the nice vehicle specific plug-n-play adapter and ended up using those horrid scotchclips to install a universal adapter. Then again I've seen this done at lots of rental shops.

No, re-read what I said...I have SEEN hitches installed by uhaul come into my shop...just because I've seen them and their bad work doesn't mean I deal in hitches!

The bottom holes are a standard flat four, while the top four are for the older individual bullet style connectors.
