I am planning to bring my girls to this and give them an education on "Tread Lightly." Would love to see some of y'all out there. I am going to run with the guys from Tennessee Jeeps (tnjeeps.com).

Here is what I took off their website:

Weather pending, meet at the gatehouse at 9:00 Saturday morning for safety briefing. We'll work until about 3:00 p.m. and have giveaways for all the volunteers at the end of the day.

Items of interest for the day include:

1. Re-painting boundary trees
2. Kid's trail maintenance
3. Downed tree removal
4. General litter pickup in the campground

The entrance fee is waived if you volunteer ($15) and you get entered into a raffle.

Awesome to see this I hope we have some guys show up. Do y'all have some of our trash bags?

Do y'all have some of our trash bags?

I have one in my Jeep, but that is all. I think Ed has a bunch in his shop.

Ed, think you could bring some trash bags to work on the 10th? I am headed to Chattanooga and could swing through the Co-op on my way through and grab some to take to trail clean up.

Or, heck, bring them yourself to the clean up on the 13th. Bring Olivia and she and my girls can work on filling their own bags!

BTT.

This is coming up this weekend. Nashville and points south guys are meeting at 6:30 am at I-65 and Concord Road at the Civitan Park parking lot. We'll fuel up on the north side of Nashville and then meet the Clarksville guys around 7:45 at exit 11 on I-24, probably at the abandoned gas station next to Waffle House.

This will be a good day to give back to the park...and get in to wheel for free! They are doing goodie bags for all volunteers and everyone will be entered into an end of the day raffle drawing also.

I have some trash bags left. Swing by work and you can get them on Wednesday.

Dirk, I tried calling you back and got a wrong number. I thought I used redial but I don't know what happened.

The event went very well. About 40 rigs showed up and we worked in 4 different areas - Trash pick up, painting boundry lines, trail maintenance, kids track maintenance.

Speaking for me and my girls, we joined up with a guy in a YJ and a couple in a TJ and cleaned up the 4 campgrounds. In the 2.5 hours we worked, my girls and I got about 5 of the NAXJA onion sacks filled. The other 3 with us, probably did at least as much. After those 4 campgrounds, we took an hour trail ride. Found some great new trails I hadn't been on. Then we took a 20 minute break and rode to the rock garden. As we were on the trails we would stop and hop out to pick up the trash we found on trails edge.

I was really pretty pleased with the cleanliness of the park in general. It is usually fairly clean. There was some washup (including a dead, bloated piglet) along the lake due to the 4 inches of rain they had last week.

The park was pretty inundated with RZRs, quads, and dirt bikes. None of them participated - surprise, surprise - in the trail clean up day. I bet 90% of the Jeeps that were on the trail were participating.

We ended up the day with a gift. We all got a ticket and the ranger had a pile of gift certificates for free camping, a free weekend entry, or a free annual pass. Those annual passes went fast! I got the free weekend pass.

Great day. When the ranger gets his report written, he's supposed to get it to me so I can post it in the Land Use forum. Also, I'll get photos downloaded and posted if there are any good ones. Not a lot of "action" shots this trip, mostly poser shots!!!

Not a lot of action shots, but I'll post a few from the weekend.

First, the reason we were there.

They had about 4 inches of rain on Thursday and Friday and the water was up to where it flooded out some of the outer road. We had to drive "through" the lake to access Campground 4.

A few of the rigs that were in attendance. The gold XJ was on it's maiden voyage. Not a scratch or dimple on it ANYWHERE and brand new shoes. Looked nice. Passed it again on the trail and it was still in one piece!

First off, great work Dirk. Thanks to you and all who showed up for this. It's events like this that give us a good name and help keep this open for everyone.

Secondly, those are beautiful rims, you don't wheel with those!!!!!

Back me up here Andy!

Got a report from the park service - 40 rigs showed and put in approximately 340 man hours last Saturday.

The ranger is planning to create a profile on NAXJA so that he can post in the SEC and the Land Use sections to notify our users of upcoming events, and park and land news.
