Turkey Bay 10th and 11th,April

So CLRusty...is it just you and me meeting at exit 35, or are we expecting others? My cell is 615.480.2403 if you need to reach my...name is Dirk!

If we leave exit 35 at 8:15, what time does that put us at the trailhead? I've not made that drive before...

So who is still up for this ride???
Im not sure how long it will take up to get there, it will be my first time up too. My buddy went up with a big group a couple weeks ago.
I will have a couple of buddies with me to meet ya at 35. but yea man i will give ya a call and let ya know for sure, if ya want we can meet there a little earlier. im up at 5:30am everyday anyway.
Lets take show of hands on who is going...

CLRusty...let's be at exit 35 at 7:30. Going through Cadiz, it looks to be about 85-90 miles to Golden Pond (the only town on my Atlas in the LBL).

I say, meet at 7:30 and head right out. Should be about 65 miles to Cadiz. Let's make a short stop in Cadiz to tank up the Jeeps, then it is 20 miles into Golden Pond.

The Turkey Bay website says that all people entering must enter off road 167 at the trace. Perhaps we can plan to meet the Clarksville group at 9:00-9:15 at the park entrance. I have to believe that is where we would pay the park fee and get maps. According to the map on line, there is a gate house there.

So, Exit 35 at 7:30 to start the caravan and 9:00ish at the gatehouse? What do ya'll say?

I'm getting about 85 miles...even at 60 MPH that is less than an hour and a half. I'll go back and recalculate...

35 to the KY border
30 from the border to Cadiz
20 miles from Cadiz to the park gate house.

I did it the old fashioned way and added miles in the atlas and then divided by 65 mph average! :read:

**NOTE: A www.randmcnally.com mapping from Joelton TN to Canton KY was 79 miles. Canton is on the west edge of LBL before crossing Lake Barkley

So maybe we plan on 1 3/4 to 2 hours with a stop for fuel in Cadiz. Thanks for the heads up to recalculate BigAlpha.

Ah, Google maps shows ~2hrs if you go through Clarksville and 1hr 40min if you go through Cadiz. Speed limit on the trace is 50, IIRC.

I keep forgetting we're going to be meeting up at LBL.

Sure that sounds good to me. i will be there at 730 on the dot,,well prob before. good idea stopping in cadiz to get gas. i was curious to if there would be a gas station close up there. but yea man that sounds like a plan to me. cant wait till sat now..yall have a good day and im going back to my work here.

There are no gas stations inside of LBL, but numerous ones pretty close to the South Welcome Station (the way Clarksville guys will be going).

what about cross the river up there,,any over there too? we are staying in the lodge across the river overnight and gonna ride sunday too. trying to get all my p's and q's together here. Thanks yall.

To be honest, I wouldn't know. I don't regularly venture that far north into LBL but I would guess that there are plenty of gas stations around.

i was curious to if there would be a gas station close up there.

If you are coming from Cadiz on 68-80 there is a gas station on the left just before you cross the first bridge entering LBL. If you continue on through LBL and exit the other side, (not that far) thare is also gas in Aurora. And BBQ too.

BBQ,, Man that sounds good. Thanks Yall for the info.
OK so far as it stands we are meeting at exit 35 on 24 at McDonalds,7:30am ( if anyone else wants to join us for the ride) Then we are going to meet up with the Clarksville guys at the gate at around 9:00-9:30 am.

Is anyone bringing a Hi-Jack. I have one, but haven't figured out where to mount it yet, and will probably leave it at home...

Hey y'all---

I was just on the website for LBL/TB and they have a waiver that we would all need to sign with the $15 daily fee. If you want to print it and fill it out to bring, here is the link.

http://www.lbl.org/LBLOHVWaiverForm.pdf

The second page of the waiver reads:

All off-highway vehicles must be registered with
Land Between The Lakes before being used in
Turkey Bay OHV Area. The permit sticker must be
properly displayed on the registered vehicle at all
times. When the gatehouse is staffed, permits may
be obtained there. When the gatehouse is not
staffed, riders must obtain a permit from the Golden
Pond Visitor Center daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or at
North and South Welcome Stations, March -
November from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

So, on the off chance that the gatehouse isn't staffed, let's meet the Clarksville guys at the Golden Pond VC. That might be safest anyway, as I read on their website that there are some road closures near the gate house...however that may specifically be for hikers and bikers.

yea my buddy was telling me about the road being closed up there and said you can ride right around thr road they have closed.
Is everyone ready to go? i got mine done for what i was gonna do to it for this trip.
hey if you wanna bring the high lift jack ,i have a place to mount it on my roof rack, if ya think we might need it on the trails.
Hey Dirk, Whats a good time to call ya tomm man?

I'm available anytime tomorrow except ~10:15-11:15 am and ~1:30-4:30 pm.

Call me on Saturday morning also if you like. I'll be on the road around 6:30 am.

Do you know how many people we are meeting at exit 35? Don't want to run off and leave anyone.

ok what i ment by ride around is the detour takes ya around it,,,lol oh noway ya getting me on some rodes we are not supposed to be on. Ive heard ya get pulled over by them ,Its not cheap.....I dont wanna find out.
