I ve been tossing the idea of just starting over on my cherokee.
I cut the back c and D pillars off and was going to tube it out. So in essance it would look like a MJ with doors on the bed.
But seeing the price of some one to weld me a cage to go in it.. its around $2000 for the cage.
The jeep i have now has over 230k on the engine and it has piston slap at high rpm, original aw4 still kicking donkey, but i have d44 rear, 4:88 gears, 35s, crok steering box frame beef, home made stiffeners etc.. Except for the engine.. everything has been replaced/upgraded.
So..
Do i Cage it? or start over with an other jeep and not cut the body?

--uniquess of having a custom cage.. tempting.
-- swap all the parts over to an other xj

What do you all think?
heres a crappy cell pic of what it looks like now with my wife at the wheel:

Put a pre-fabbed cage in it for 1000 bucks... My cage fit great.

Not a bad idea... I'd offer to do a cage for $$$ but I'm not good with my bender... lol! :scared: Also is 2K labor or steel and labor?

My vote is to add a cage and run it.

The devil you know is usually better than the devil you don't.

cage it. run it. beat it to death. bring it back to life as a buggy. run it.

Cage it, wheel it...

You can't sell it as is for much, so unless you have money for a new ride now, you're better off with building what you got.

One more vote for a cage. Motors are cheaper and easier to swap than buying and building another jeep. You have a good start there, and a body that you don't mind beating up a bit. Wheeling is a lot more fun when you don't cry about a dent or two. I've been called a tree hugger a couple times, and it isn't because I'm a hippie! Body damage is par for the course for this kind of fun. Sometime soon I'm gonna buy an xj and keep it stock as a DD and save the abuse for the one I have, since it's already fubar.(rust and dents):piratefla

too bad you re so far away from me.. or i would have you build me a nice one!

Tube it and put a bikini on it.

If your not going to tube it the jump it REAL high. With any (bad) luck you will have the rarest of all XJ's: The always talked about but NEVER photographed Taco'd XJ.
