has anyone ever put tubs on xj rear fenderwells to make more room for rear tires this common thing that is done to dragsters just wondering if anyone has done of thought about it? just a random thought I had

kind of. i cut out my rear fenders and raised them a bit. made some filler panels to close it all in

I was thinking that the trailer wheel wells they sell at tractor supply and northern tool and such places could be made into some really nice cherokee wheel wells.

Would have never considered the drum idea. Do your 37's stuff well into it?

After studying them and some measurements, they would work great. I was even gunna do that myself, but I ended up just stretching and hacking the stock inner wheelwell similar to the TNT rig.

Well i am running a 44/9 with stupid offset wheels and beadlocks, so they dont really "stuff" per say. I had to fix mine due to stretching it, not really clearance issues.

That looks super clean, I probably would have tried to go more that route but I mounted my shocks out towards the tire, it was already a cluster under there with keeping the factory tank and pushing it back, and the four link.

using a drum makes for a quick and easy fender well. i looked into the trailer fenders, but those would've required a bit more work to make them fit. so i just opted to make my own.

you guys with the 4 doors can't really move the fenders up all that much, with the rear doors and all, right? well without major surgery anyway

I just did made my own inner fenderwalls for my XJ. I'll snap some pictures tomorrow. I did not make them larger, modeled them after the stock size. I think they came out pretty well although I was surprised to learn how much work it went into making one and how 1/16" inch off can make a large impact on how things fit up together.

Okay here they are tacked up and one is partially welded. I'm using .035 wire and it's really difficult so I stopped until I can get some .023 wire in there. I have to add a little more skirt to the fenders, especially in the front, but I believe the hardest part for me is over so I'm not too worried.

Once I finish welding, everything will be smoothed out, possibly some body filler added, and then coated with bedliner.

My fenders aren't made to provide larger fenderwells, although the design could easily be modified to allow it. I'm remaking my Jeep and want a square base fenderwell because I plan to build a cargo deck that is about 6-8" high that will sit flat in my trunk space allowing me storage space via drawers.
