Transmission and Clutch noise

Spearfisher XJ

NAXJA Forum User
1988 XJ 4.0 rebuilt AX15 and clutch with 10k miles on it. Well I was coming home from wheeling and the old XJ was doing good on The freeway until I got off the freeway and heard a clicking noise in 1st and 2nd gear when under load. It sounds like it is coming from the clutch and it gets worse with increased load. Also it is concurrent with the clutch speed -as I increase in speed the noise does as well. What do you think it is?

Bad drive shaft U-joint if you are lucky? get under the jeep and push and shove on the drive shaft joints, if they have any play in them they are bad.

Do you mean the throw out bearing? Was it new or reused?

Have you drained the gear box fluid and looked at it?
