Trans guru's... does this seal look bad to you?

OEM Tech Sucks


So I'm not especially trans saavy. This 2wd BA/10 started leaking like a stuck pig on my way home from a desert trip. Sat in my driveway and leaked the rest of the fluid out as well. Not sure if I over filled it or not when I put the new tailcone on, but it acted like a blown seal. Well I took it apart and nothing looks bad to me?? :huh:

I don't want to go put a new seal in it, only to have the bitch pour all over my driveway again.

Hmmmmm nevermind... found the problem. Good news is it's not a trans seal, bad news is I pulled my tailcone off for no reason at all...

Anybody with any ideas on how it might have happened? Keep in mind, I just got a new driveshaft made, longer obviously. Is it too long? Think the yoke plunged too far into the trans and the output shaft hit the end of the yoke?

Jim your assumption is my best guess as well. Had the same thing happen on my yj and the yokes are supposed to do that to prevent damage to the shaft.

Damn, looks like it's gonna go back to banning driveline... I'll just put my other one that's too short in for now I suppose, and hope it doesn't grenade like the last one.

My xj did the exact same thing after a hard landing, my guess would be that it pushed too far into the trans and popped the plug out. either that or it just fell out on its own. PM coming.

id replace the seal tho just because your right there and its like $7 of insurance that you wont have to fix it later

I'm not sure? I just got the tailcone back on last night and went in and started drinking and bbq'ing I'll get another picture today.

It's a 2wd with a BA10. This is just supposed to be temporary, I have an AX15 ready to go in when I go 4wd.

what are you waiting for to put the AX15 in? still need a tcase or what?

Taking the t-case out of my XJ when it goes to 2wd. That and I think I'm going to rebuild the AX15, it's got a bit of shaft play.
