my brother and i both have a 1995 xj. My xj has a 5" lift with 32's andmy brother has a 4.5" lift with 33's. the problem that we are running in to is the tranny overheating in everyday driving. I will say that we both have a heavey foot but i would don't think that it should radiate that much heat. what should i do to evalute the problem. any help is nice.:banghead:

How do you know it's overheating? Do you have a temp guage on it? How much heat is coming from the trans and how much heat is coming from the cat?

I don't think it is the cat because the heat is in the front driverside and front passenger side floor board. I think it is the tranny because the floor board does not heat up untill i start driving and seems to cool off after setting in park for a couple of minutes.

You need to find out how hot the trans really is. If it is too hot then you may have problems.....check your cooler lines
at the radiator and see if they are hot. Check the cooler lines for kinks, look on the passenger side neer the upper control arm.

Check your fluid and see if its burnt....

change your fluid now also.

An exhaust leak could do it too! Check the manifold, down pipe flange and all the way to the Cat. It would get worse and simulate an overheating transmission as you drove more, higher rpms more heat leaking.

I just put new header and down tube and welded every thing from the down pipe back to the tailpipe. I checked the whole system for leaks after i re-installed it.
