On the way home from Dennis house last night, I got stuck in bad traffic at the 60/15 interchange. I didn't get home till after 6 left at 2:15. Turns out a 26 year old kid was on a mid 90s cbr, pulled a wheelie and failed, tumbled accost 3 lanes and was ran over and killed by a simi truck. The truck was driven by a 49 year old man. I feel sorry for both parties involved. On one side. Someone lost a son, brother, friend, bf? But on the tragic side. A guy, at work hit and killed a kid. I could not even fathom that, and right before the holidays, hopefully the company puts him in mandatory counselling. Dude, just blows me away.

Well how would you feel if you killed a kid in your jeep, regardless of if he was being and idiot or not? I think even if it wasn't my fault, I would feel pretty crappy if I ran over someone.

Everyone is different. If I wanted to be counseled I would ask. If it was manditory I would be pissed. Yes it sucks, but as cold as this sounds, it does not upset me that much when people do stupid shit that gets them killed. He made the decision to wheelie in traffic.

Yup. The mandatory part probably would drive me up the wall. Life sucks. People die. People die for doing stupid things. People die cause of medical reasons. That's just life... Sometimes best way to recover from something like that is to get back to work and accept that it happend. Sometimes talking about it makes it worse....

I feel bad for the driver, not one bit for the kid. We all like to do stupid shit now and again, but rush hour isn't the place. I hope the trucker feels like me, he'll be back at work tomorrow without a care.

If you drive a simi for a living, then you've seen/heard just about everything. He'll be back to work Monday. As for the rider, it's just "thinning out the herd". Jerk on the highway, jerk in daily life.

X2 If the biker is doing stupid things in rush hour he is asking for trouble.

Mandatory sucks..... not the way to manage people! But I get your point ted, I was on the way home from the race and saw that the 60 was wayyyy backed up! Sucks, but then again doing wheels on the freeway?? Traffic or not, is just dumb.

We have those types of idiots in Atlanta, that drive the Connector through downtown in packs, doing well in excess of 100 mph, weaving in between traffic. The cops do nothing. I wait for the day a whole group of them wipe-out, removing themselves from the gene pool.

In my twentys I was one of these knuckleheads. Freeway wheelies standing up at 80mph, freeway wheelies at 65mph with a passenger!!! Not proud just proving that anyone can be stupid when they are young. I am just lucky enough to still be here to realize how stupid it was.

That said, I used to tell people "If I die doing something that was stupid, don't feel sorry for me".

Not to sound cold, but why mandatory counseling?

The reason is by taking some reasonable precautions to make sure there isn't a second loss from this senseless tragedy.
Some people aren't able to process extreme emotional trauma.

Taking the time, and resources to make sure the truck driver is coping is, I think, overall the best way to handle this.

Just my .02
