towing a camper ?

Does anyone pull a camper / trailer with their lifted XJ? We've been thinking about getting small pop-up camper.

Ive pulled a 12-14ft trailer in mine.. Not very heavy. Single axle.. Haven't had any problems.. and i took my rear sway off.

I tow my pop-up (11' collapsed)with my comanche all the time and my friend has towed it with his cherokee with no problem

I tow a Rockwood pop-up that weighs about 2200 lbs fully loaded with my Cherokee. Tongue weight is almost 300 lbs. 5" lift, 32" tires and rear sway bar removed. Does well although it does not like climbing hills in the mountains.

I pulled my MJ trailer with a wildernest (+/-900 lbs loaded) with the XJ, no problems except for lack of uphill power -- mine was a manual so sometimes I parked it in 3rd, pulled 3k at around 55mph. You'll want electric brakes for a trailer over 700lbs, IMHO.

Im not sure if it was just my brothers xj but it did not like going up I70 with our pop up on it... actually blew a rad hose that day. but had no other issues that day to speak of so.

I tow a '62 aristocrat land commander with mine. 15' from ball to tail. Went from tonasket,wa to san diego ca with it.
trailer brakes are a must for anything of real weigjt.
take it slow, you.have your home with you. No reason to rush

I used to tow a 1500# camping trailer with my 90 on 3" and 30's, manual, 3.55's, fully loaded with wife and kid and stuff. Did fine, had to rap it out over Monarch pass, but, hey.

Now that it's worn out, I tow an M-416, loaded, with 4.11's and 33's. Not exactly a speed demon, and it blew a quart of oil going over Monarch, but it gets there.

I used to tow my pop-up (1985 coachman 1610) with my last XJ (99 4.0 5spd 2" BB 30X9.50's 3.07's) and still do with my wife's TJ (05 4.0 6spd). its not very heavy maybe 11-1200lbs, but I never had an issue with it.
one of the very first trips with the XJ we towed to VA beach (me and 2 girls and our stuff) cat conv got REALLLLLLY hot coming home. cut it off and eventually replaced it with a magnaflow cat and dynomax cat back. never had another issue. of course I cant say the cat failing had anything to do with towing the camper, could just have been a coninkydink.

Thanks, I am probably just gonna go light and pull a small utility trailer and haul the wall tent instead of the camper.

i pull a 5x8' trailer w/ 15" wheels and various loads with no problem. I'm really itching for 33's, but ive been towing more often than I thought, so im sticking it out until I get 4.56s in there.

I'm in the same conundrum... 32" tires and I tow a light 3 rail motorcycle trailer with a couple bikes on it up I-70.. She hates it. Not enough gears.

Any more weight or tire and I'd want to be re geared.

Shoot, even I-25 to Ft. Collins with a single bike it seems like the transmission is always between 3rd and OD.. It makes me feel guilty and I swear I can smell the transmission heating up. Fluid is clean and topped off. I know I need to flush the coolant though.
