Hey i know this is not really a wrangler forum but i bought a ATV rack that mounts in a 2" receiver hitch, problem is my 2000 TJ Canadian wrangler doesn't have a hitch so I need to install one... no problem right. I have yet to find a hitch receiver to have more then 400 pounds of tongue weight which is downward force on the hitch not towing capacity. My ATV weighs near 550. Is this even possible on a wrangler?? If anyone knows of a kick ass hitch that can support this monster Im all ears. Or do i just go to custom shop and have them weld on a stronger framed receiver frame?? Thanks Dan

so you want to put an ATV on something similar to what people put fire wood on? I would pick up a small trailer.

I don’t believe hanging that much weight off of the back end a TJ would be a good idea!
Think about how light that would make the front end and the amount of weight swinging around the behind the rear axle.
The TJ has a maximum tongue weight and you would excide that with a quad.

This is an accident waiting to happen.

your steering will only partially responsive at best. That thing would be a death trap. WAY too much weight behind the rear axle of a SHORT wheelbase vehicle

I towed a small utility trailer with gravel in it with about #500 tongue weight. I did this for about a mile and I never did that again.

So your ATV weighs around near 550 and the carrier weighs 115 = 665 = accident.

If you actually do this make sure you gas it real hard the first time you take off from a stop light.

I figure the first time your front wheels lift off the pavement entirely it should be while you're still going slow, and within the returns period on that ATV carrier...

Okay guys I think Ive took enough verbal abuse but i got alot of good stuff to say when i approach the salesman at the Bike shop about why he sold me this thing to put on a jeep. Thanks everyone the input was helpful

Atleast you get the point, think safety first. Then make form and function second. A small ATV trailer will cost a little more but it is a lot better for your situation. Let us know what you end up doing. Don't let this thread scare you off, there is a lot of good info here if you sift through the Poo.

Why do you need a quad in the back of the jeep? Going for the TruckBoatTruck?
