Too wide for CHP?

Hi folks.

I just installed 33x12.5 tires on 3.75 b.s. wheels on my xj.
I spent too much money on Ruetys flex flairs that are about 1.5 inches wider than stock. The tread sticks out 1 1/4 - 1 1/2 from the flair. The actual sidewall sticks out further.

Am I going to get pulled over?

Will mud flaps save me?

Thank you.

I haven't got a ticket yet for fender flares, but I consider myself lucky. Here is my setup running without flares. JK axles with a 4" backspace rim.

I am running 35x12.5 (without flaps) and havent gotten the blue lights yet. I have fender flares that might help some, But if in doubt, just swing by the Local CHP office and ask. The most they are gonna say is "ehhhh, yeah get something to help cover the access tire to keep them from tossing stuff up at other motorists."

it just depends on the officer, you should be good though. my broncos tires stick out 10" with no problems with the cops yet.

The whole fender flare/mud flap thing is tough. It seems like the cops are hit or miss on that stuff. My wheels have pretty deep backspacing, the tires only stick out about an inch with the Creepy Crawlers, my 35" MTR's tucked under the stock flares nicely. I have been pulled over for no mud flaps once, but only got a courtesy citation. The cop admitted she only pulled me over to check if I was drinking and let me go without a real ticket.

I say keep driving like normal until you are ticketed. Then, well just deal with whatever you got to do.

dont even worry about it, havent got pulled over yet. Had 2 jeeps over the last couple of years and have ran no flares on both of them, no tickets...

I've heard of several people being pulled over lately because of this.

I stick out a decent amount also, but been lucky so far. I'm following Bryan's idea... keep it how it is until I run into problems, then I'll fix it.

CA fix it tickets are $10, right?
Correct...

FWIW, I run 35x12.5 on 15x10 wheels with 3.75" BS and ive never had a problem. My tires stick out at least about 4" and ive stopped next to a cop at a light with no doors, no fender flares, exo cage, and everything and normally they just look at me and carry on.

I heard hte fix it price went up to $25 or higher as of recent.

Yup actually, your right. I didnt know that. Its been a while since i got a fix-it...

Lacking the funds to renovate nearly 400 court buildings across California, the state Legislature approved a boost in fix-it fines from $10 to $25 under a bill written by state Sen. Don Perata, D-Oakland.

Yep, fix-it tickets went up to $25 per violation, so do the math if you get more than one violatoin on a ticket, adds up pretty quick, especially if someone feels like messing around.
Jimbo - how long do you have to get it signed off??? I'd say mail it to me and problem is solved ;)
