A Woman, a Car, and a Mattress

A Woman ran over a mattress on the highway, and decided not to worry -- and kept on driving.

The ensuing jumble finally whipped around enough to tear a hole in the fuel tank.

The Subsequent Lack Of Fuel Is What Finally Brought Her Vehicle To Its Knees.

She Had Still Managed To Drive 30 More Miles With A 60-Pound Tangle of Stuff Wrapped Around Her Drive shaft.

She Had it Towed To Her Dealership and Complained That The Vehicle Had

A "Sort Of Shimmy" When She Was Driving At High Speeds.

Below Are The Photos Of What They Found At Her Dealership...

Wow. She must of had the tunes cranked up, that had to make a quite the racket as it got spooled up on her drive shaft.

:roflmao:
That story is ridiculous, but those pictures sure look legit.

Well the story ain't too ridiculous. Think of how tight that is wound over the drive shaft. It would take some pretty hefty amount of revolutions of the drive shaft to wind up all that.

this cannot be real

I know this can happen for one good reason, It happened to me. Driving down a dirt road I ran across some old barb wire fencing. I heard it catch underneath and heard a whipping sound. Stopped and looked under the truck only to see this shit wrapped around my drive shaft. Half hour later with a pair of cutters I finally cut it out all out and it was probably not more than 8ft of barb wire. That pictures shows a LOT of metal wire that use to be box springs............

The drive shaft wrapping thing ain't the ridiculous part. It's the lady driving over a mattress in a small car and not thinking anything of the grinding whipping noises.

Small car???? :roflmao:

When's the last time you saw that kind of a huge axle under a leaf sprung "car"????? And a side-mounted gas tank in a "car"???

That's a 3/4 ton truck easy. All that mattress wire is wound around the 2nd half of a split driveshaft - you can see the carrier bearing just ahead of the mess.

Ah, yeah... I read "woman" and "car" and didn't put any more thought into it :D

This is why we are all in big trouble , they let people like this drive ....
Next that could be you all twisted around the drivetrain and this dumb ass will sure keep driving , with the first thing that comes to mind is to try to get the mechanics to fix it for free , like what happened ...

Freeks me out when I'm riding , I've had quite a few people try to run me over , talking on there dammed cell phone or better yet fuggin texting. I'm sorry but texting is the end of society as we know it . After I get pissed at them for trying to running me over , they actually have the ignorance to get mad at me . I've had to get off the bike a couple off times to straighten someones attitude real quick .

I looked into it a bit, and according to snopes the earliest account of this story popping up was late 2008, and claimed it was a GUY in a MUSTANG. Then somebody pointed out that it had to have been a truck, and a couple stories say he was driving a Jeep, but that sure as hell ain't a Jeep. Then around mid 2009 it starts showing up as a woman driver.

And of course it was a Chevy... if it were a Dodge then the owner probably would have at least been smart enough to avoid the mattress in the first place, and if somehow a Ford driver WAS dumb enough to hit it then it wouldn't have phased the truck cause ya know, it's a Ford.

If you read correctly , you would see that it caused no damage other than she ran it out of gas with a whole in the tank . The thing thats amazing is we could try to recreate this disaster a hundred times , with no avail .

It was just a random stroke of un-luckyness that one of the coils caught the drive shaft , its all history from there .

No see if it were a Ford truck, the driveshaft wouldn't have caught the spring cause it's too good for that crap and if by some fluke it had, the gas tank would have been fine cause... it's a Ford. Built tough man.

........WOW, dude the pictures are right there. No matter how the story changed over the course of the years, (snopes ain't the word of god either) there is two facts; there is a truck, there is what use to be mattress box springs wound tightly on the drive shaft.

I cannot believe this is the only time anyone has ever snagged something on the road with their drive shaft the odds are there.

Dude , Fords are made in Mexico , you're talking to a guy thats NEVER lost to a Ford , Not in the last 30 years I've been driving . I've never been stranded by a
GM product that didn't involve my own stupidity . There is a BIG reason they cost more . This a case of amazing result , I've ran over a ton of shit in chevy's
without a problem , shopping carts , trees and yes allot of of random crap that should have done allot more damage than it did .

It has nothing to do with Ford Vs chevy .
