Hey All:
Has anyone used TJ flares in the rear and NOT cut up into the rear fender well too much, I don't think I'll need to cut too much & I don't want to go above the seam. I also was wondering if anyone has NOT split the flare ( I think Mil didn't split his) and didn't go too high?
Thanks for any ideas..

if you aren't gonna cut... why bother

Because I want to trim not cut, because I will be going to larger tires, because I need to trim the front ALOT, because I'm trying not to spend $$$ on the BWs and afew other becauses...
I don't want to cut into the seam if I don't have to, I rub front & rear in the rear but not on the top and everywhere up front.

What's the difference between trimming and cutting? I can't - and it looks like Cheap can't - tell what each means to you. I see them as basically the same. What does not cutting up into the rear fender well "too much" mean to you?

If you don't want to go above the seam, don't. Trim as far as you want to and then if you need to, bumpstop or rub. My opinon, at least.

ahh, ok.. I see...

you don't have to cut the seam apart. you can kerf the corners and then bend the metal in. this way, the seam stays 100% intact and you still get as much clearance as possible.

as far as not splitting the flare, you could do it with a YJ rear flare, but the TJ flare is just too damn big!

basically, do this ( http://www.jeepin.com/features/bushwacker/page2.asp ), then put a TJ flare there instead of a bushwacker.

Curt, My TJ flares are not split on the rear ones. It's doable. I like the look of the rear flare being mounted lower than the front. I'll see if I cant find some pics.

The difference as I see it is the integrity of the rear of the XJ. I see trimming as a fine tuning of the wheel well opening... cutting as I see it goes up higher into the wheel well and requires more extensive work i.e. welding it all back together or having it done. I can weld, but I'm not THAT ! confident to weld something upside down thats that thin & structural.
Cutting & trimming.... probably mean the same but thats the difference as I
see it.

Hey Dan I'd be interested in seeing what you've done. Also I P.M.ed you awhile back about Truckhaven.

Cheap: Thanks for the direction towards Jason's install.

let's see if this pic works.

You can put Tj Flairs on the back without splitting the flairs. Just reverse the back tj flairs (ie put them on the wrong side) they will fit behind the door opening rear doors and hold up better than if you split the flair to allow your door to open . My avatar shows my jeep done that way.

Do you need flares?
