TJ Auto Tranny trouble

Recently my TJ has been giving me troubles. It has an auto transmission, and when it shifts to 3rd, either up or down, it seems to be slipping. The engine revvs way up, and the gear won't catch until I lett off the gas. It's only 3rd gear that's giving me this trouble.

Sounds like your clutch packs are worn out for 3rd gear. Pull the dipstick and check the condition of the oil. If is red or orangish color, the clutch packs are probably ok and you are expierencing a hydraulic or electrical problem in the tranny. If the oil is a dark brown or black color and smells burnt, the tranny is toast. Also make sure the level is at the proper level, if it is too low than that can cause the slip your talking about. Make sure to check it with the tranny nuetral (its a chrysler thing).
