I have a 94 cherokee that i just put a 4.5" lift and 33's on and i dont know what to set the tire pressure to for road use. Right now i have them at 27 psi on all 4 tires. stock it says to set them at 35 cold but the tires says max psi 33 psi cold.

a 33 rated at max of 33psi? thats odd

either way 27 is closer to what you should run them at.

Take some chalk, draw a line across the tread, take it for a spin aroudn the neighbor hood. If the center is worn away more air down, if its worn less air up untill you get an even wear

For reference i ran my 31s at 28 psi and they wore perfect

Thanks that chalk idea is a really great idea. i would have never though of it. it just rained though so i think ill have to wait until it dries off first. what is the max psi rating on other 33" tires you have seen. i got these tires for free off my friends dad so im greatfull even if they are not the most high quality.

arent most like 50psi, hell my 36s have a rating of like 45. even if they do air themselves down.. and yeah i got mine for free over 60% tread and mounted on 15x10 wheels... couldnt argue

another thing you can do thats not quiet as effective, is drive through a puddle onto flat dry ground. if the center lugs are more visible in the foot prints air down... you get the drift

Wheres the pics of th e33s?

and what kind are they?

i dont have pics yet and i dont know how to use this site yet so i couldnt pist them anyway. haha. i dont know what they are. they are missmatched. 2 different tread patterns. i put the gnarlier ones in the back. im going to get new ones next yr. i have stock everything except for the lift rims and tires. you dont have any advice to get better gas mileage do you?

?????

Since Cherokees never came with 33" tires, it's not possible that there is a "stock" specification calling for 35 psi cold. Are you possibly looking at the MAXIMUM LOAD pressure for stock size tires? That only applies for that size tire, when carrying a maximum load of passengers and luggage. With larger tires, you need less pressure to carry the same load.

yeah 4.10s and 36s

some how when i put the 36s on my mileage shot up alot from what i got with the 32s, we cant figure it out, this is goin from mileage driven on a trip, knowing it fillin up before and after, not off the fawked up speedo

with the 36s i get 18mpg highway 15 city with 4.10 gears

Yea i got the 35 psi from the inside of the door. I had no idea what pressure i should use so i just figured i would go with stock until i found what presssure i should use. but then i found that my tires cant even go that high so i came here to you guys. As for the better gas mileage with 36's thats really weird. good though i guess. haha. i dont think i could fit 36's though with my 4.5" lift though. how much are different gears. i dont know much about them really. I still have a lot to learn i guess. haha

you got more lift than me

yeah.. keep you rfoot out of the throttle.. thats my biggest problem.. my 99 on 30s gets a usual 16mpg.. i have a heavy foot.. if i can keep it below 65 mph it jumps to 20.... my 87 with 33s and 4.56 gears lifted 5.5" gets 17 mpg pretty consistantly. but on a trail day i get down below 11mpg..

no extended bumpstops, just put tj flares on, the rear was cut to fully open up to tj flare size and welded back together. Front just beat the battery tray area on both sides with a bfh and thats still the main place it rubs.

I am running a 3 inch lift kit. Its always sat at at least 4. And its got overloads on the rear springs, but they stop the travel only when they springs are perfectly flat, and the tires barely touch than.

full specs can be found on my site http://xjfanatic.com

check out the forum we could use some more members lol

Yeah... about the light foot thing...... i'm trying but its hard. I'm 17, i love my jeep, and the only time i go slow is when going around corners and rock crawling. haha

yeah, give it 3 years and you will calm down some, its taken me that long. I am 20 and still slow down for no one, but its never seemed to matter to my heep.

That 35 psi applies only to the stock size tires, and that's for carrying the full load capacity of the vehicle. For normal driving with just you in the vehicle, about 30 psi is right with stock tires.

With 33s, you need less pressure to carry the same load. You would probably get optimum tread wear running around 25 psi but that's low enough that excessive flex in the sidewalls could build up heat, causing failure (think "Firestone" + "Explorer"). Try running 27 to 28 and check your tire wear periodically.

yea i just set the pressure on all 4 to 27 before i came in tonight. that seems to be what you guys are telling me is the correct pressure, so ill see how it works out. thank you guys for the help.

yeah should be close to right. Depends on the sidewall stiffness

I fill the tsl's up before each time i go out, by the time i get to where ever i am goin the ds are at 10psi, and the ps are still around 30. I really need to clean those bead seats out and patch a few more sidewall spots
