Tire opinion for new build.....

So I've been quiet for a while. After a break, I'm now beginning my 3rd XJ build. Spending so much time in Afghanistan lately has made me wanna enjoy my time even more when I'm home. My last 2 were on 5.5 RE kits and were home at Tellico and Uwharrie back in the day. I now live in TX and am aiming more for a lower height and expedition type XJ....yet fully capable. Uses would be occasional wheeling trips.....trips to Colorado and Utah for wheeling and camping. This is my DD...hence the main reason for my asking is in regard to that comfort vs utility aspect.....of both the tires and load ranges. That's just some background....and I'll post the build when I get back stateside in February. My quest for opinions is as such:

Goodyear Duratrac load range C
or
Goodyear Duratrac load range E
or
Kumho Road Venture M/T load range E
or
Wrangler MT/R load range E

They will be going on my 2001 with 4" of lift. I'm looking at the 245/75/16 size to fit on the Moabs. The rest of the build consists of basically everything new...Currectlync...DPA....IronmanFab adjustable UCA and LCAs and Boomerangs...IRO trackbar...Bilsteins...OME coils and leaves....HP 30 and 8.8 with True Tracs...etc. Overkill...I know....I once too started out with the budget boost...but now that I can go a bit better...I do.....lol....just saying.
And yes, my NAXJA hoodie keeps me toasty and warm...even in far northeastern Afghanistan....

Pics or it didn't happen:D

What about Micky Thomspon MTZ's? If your on a budget, the Tread write retread M/T's are MTR clones.

If you go MTR, get the ones with Kevlar!

Since comfort is an aspect of this build, I would reccomend sticking with a Load range C tire. Those E's will be awfully stiff

avoid the E-rated tires. they are a good bit more stiff and heavy. Granted you do get maybe 2/32 extra tread, its not worth it. the 10 plies will make your jeep work like its turning a much larger tire, so why not go with the larger tire in a lower load rating.
e-rated tires just allow you to air up a hell of a lot more and be a bit stiffer(in the tread, sidewalls are still the same #plies.)
id stick with C-rated.
i love the MTR kevlars, out of the tires you listed i would choose those hands down.
the duratracs are heavliy siped and will wear a little bit faster than the others, but they are great traction wise (except lack of good sidewall lugs), and i dont have experience with the kumho's aside from mounting em up for people :dunno:

....I appreciate the "thanks"......but I have to tell you...I'm a private contractor....so even though I'm here.....I always give my thanks to the boys and girls in the service.....

Thanks for the replies so far.......and I'll get a pic up in a sec Austinaubinoe....lol

Hey now, without the contractors, we would be getting alot less done. So thanks to you too. Right now im in So. Afghanistan and I know what ya mean about cold. :shiver: Getting one of those hoodies sent out here doesn't sound like such a bad idea. Lol. But I don't think the USMC would think it's very "tactical" :laugh3:

goodyear mtrs hands down unless you are trying to tow a lot stick to the load range c tires i run the mtrs with Kevlar and love every thing about them

Im going to the 255/85/r16 Maxxis Bighorn.

It will fit on the moab, its a load D, (8ply). I have load d's now with no complaints.

And its a pizza cutter, 33.3x10.4.

Had 32" Kumhos and they were great tires. Awesome in any conditions whether it be roads, snow, or big rocks.

Now I have 35" Kevlars and they are just as awesome as the Kumhos. Haven't found a thing wrong with them yet. Offroad, they just grip like mad. I'd definitely recommend them to anyone.

Bighorns ROCK!
ill second that...
ive never run em but my wheeling buddy did. all i can say is they hooked well and the sidewalls took a BEATING and no problems. he also DD'd them and said they werent too bad on road either

Just out of curiosity what size tire and gear ratio are you running? Auto or stick?

I run 35 inch goodyear mtrs....love em except they get a little scary in snow/ice. I like the mtrs they were one of the lighter mud terrians. Pay attention to tire weight...especially if running stock gears. I run 35's on 4.88s.........high way fuel mileage is non existent I was pleased with 11.9 on this winter fuel junk.
