Three wheeled car/trike

I ride a motorcycle 90+% of the time but my knees are going bad. Been researching trikes and am interested in a car based trike. Looking for ideas on a car to chop up and turn into a trike. Was looking primarily at VW based ones but around here at least VW motors are getting harder and harder to find. Also sorta interested in a reverse or backwards trike (two wheels up front, one in the back). Anyone out there got an idea of a decent car to convert? Still in reseach so wild ideas are cool. *grin* My wife gets worried when I start looking at her Eclipse.

Hey Sarge......
Check this place out, theres a few "Trikers" over there and if your gonna build you one, LOTS of good people to get ideas from. ;)

Jay Leno's got one that was home made... he showed a picture on his show just the otherday with the backwards trike. maybe search google for it

They did an awesome one for a handicapped guy on American Choppers as a fantasy bike build. Traditional chopper built all the way back to the swing-arm mount, then a really cool independant rear kit that mounts from there back.

But I'm sure it would be quite expensive to build for the "common" guy.

Or if you got an old Peterbuilt laying around.......

The independent rear end runs around $7000 by itself...about three or four different versions out right now.

Like the T-Rex ideas. Wouldn't use the bodywork myself but that's got my brain working all right. Touch on the scary side that they post no prices!

Can't think of the name off hand but there is a new one thats been being built for the past oh...15 years, it's enclosed and two seat front/back. I also remember that messerschmit built them back at the end of WWII...
I've driven a couple of the VW ones, not bad but easy to pull wheelies.

Depending on options and availability, they range around $15000 to $20000 USD. At least that was three years ago when I got quotes from them...
