So I'm thinking of going to Colorado state or the University of Colorado...what are the thoughts on the schools? I'm looking to get a BS in Landscape of some sort. Because I'm active duty military, I'll be getting instate tuition, so that helps. Any thoughts on the area and where to look for housing?

If you are doing ANYTHING land, soil, plant or otherwise agriculturally/horticulturally related, CSU is your place (it used to be called "Colorado A&M"). Ft. Collins is a great town, right on the foothills, and the wheeling up the Poudre Canyon, and thes scenery, is awsome. Are you looking for rental housing, puchase? Single family, townhouse?... There has been alot of growth around Ft. Fun lately, particularly in Windsor (just to the SE). Housing in Loveland can be substantially cheaper than Ft. Collins, and is only a 10-20 minute drive into town

Landscape Architecture is probably what I'll really do. I'm looking for a single family home with a garage, but I'll take what I can get. What's a decent price for homes in the area?

Definately CSU for Landscape Architecture... my sister was actually in that program until she transfered to Oregon. I have a couple of buddy's that live in Loveland, and I think there are still some 50-60's era ranches in the sub-$200k range. You'll find lots of late 90's -early 2000's 3bd houses for $250-300k in Ft. Fun.

That sucks, was hoping to pick up a place for cheaper....oh well. Did she like the school?

Yeah, she actually transferred back to CSU to get her Masters in horticulture. It's a cool school. Do an internet search for "Colorado MLS search", and you can find some local realtor's website that will show you everything for sale in the area in whatever price range you specify.

The last 10 years in Colorado was a major inflation in real estate prices, but they are actually going down now - good for you, bad for me (since I bought at the peak)...:tears:

as far as having to pick between the two for the field of study and location CSU all the way.

Housing is not that expensive in Loveland. My daughter just bought a new 2100 sqft house with garage and unfinished basement for around $200k.

I got my house for $157k and it's 2600sqft then again I live in little mexico over here in Greeality. about 45 min to an hour from Ft. Collins. And I have no land small lot. I'd take a smaller house with more land any day. well as long as I could have my 4 car garage shop out back that is. Property and land right now still bites right now.

CSU for sure. Not only is it more in line with the degree you are leaning toward, the area has great access to everything...and it's NOT Boulder (aka Berkeley East). The smell of patchouli and unwashed hippies is a lot less pungent in FtC as well. ;-)

Being from just outside boulder and being jarhead I would say this guy is dead I can't wait to be back in CO. Good luck and have fun.

It won't be until at least fall of '09 when I start, but its always good to start looking early.
