And just using it as a daily driver for a while I really dont have time to go wheeling anymore due to the now 750 a month day care bill. And I cant seem to sell it for what I want. So I may end up having a bunch of stuff for sell soon.

Big, I have probably the hooptiest hoopty xj to be found. Runnin 35 bfg a/ts because I couldn't afford to replace a set of 33 mtzs that got cut. I dd my rig, 6" rusty's lift, arb (yj) bumper fitted to the front (9k harbor freight winch). My commute is 80 miles. I'm trying to figure out how to scrape the money together to get new tires. I've been tryin to get the "extra" cash together to regear for more than a year. I got a used front locker. Rambling to point out the fact that it's not the most capable, nor finest. However, I will restate Ians question, a tad differently. Yes, I pay for fuel, and cringe. I wheel when I can, I enjoy my heep. Sometimes I get to use the winch (pulled a forklift out of the mud yesterday). IF you enjoy the rig the way it is, and can dd it, why change a thing? The milage is not that big a deal, unless you drive a few hundred miles a day. I keep mine running, well it moves under it's own power. To change it back to stock will cost you time, and you will never recoup your money sellin the parts. So, enjoy what you have, use it, have fun. Come wheelin with the broke kids, I have never paid to wheel, I would if I could afford to. Do not let the kid cost take away from a TINY pleasure. The kid comes first at my house, however dad get's to scrape a bit of fun from the bones of life

Well said.... I think what he is trying to say is..... The money is already spent! Just leave it like it is, and enjoy it when you can, whether that be once a month, or once a year. You know you wouldn't be happy if it were back stock again anyways Scott.

Thing is it costs me more to own the jeep then I use it. The only time its moved since barnwell was to be test driven by some one. I just dont see a need for it. I really dont have time to go wheeling and when I dot theres no good places close that I can do a day trip and not be bored with it the next time. IN the 6 times I have been to barnwell I still havent been through the entire park.

Uh...how is it costing you anything just sitting?

More specifically, how is it costing you more to keep it sitting than it would to DD it?

Also, as mild as your build is, you could easily DD it just like it is, couldn't you?

I still need to gear it rebuild the motor get the ac wroking properly. I may just put the body back to stock instead of course unless some one around austin wants to buy it.

All of that is stuff you need to do to DD it, not stuff you need to do to make it stock and DD it. In other words, unless you plan on getting rid of it completely, it doesn't make sense to try and "step down" to stock as you need to do the same work either way. The only reason I could see for dropping it to stock would be try and sell it, and the other issues you have with it (A/C and motor) are gonna keep that from being a good way to go regardless of the size of the tires.

On the same note, if it's just the insurance / registration costs, then stop paying insurance on it and garage it. Drive something else until your personal economy shapes up enough to start playing in the jeep again.

That lets you keep the jeep for a rainy day, but avoid putting any money into it for the time being.

Scott you probably do not want to hear it...but!

You are welcome to store / keep it at my place for awhile if you want to just get it out of the way.

I've tried before to have a hobby less life. I find I become less friendly. I have no extra money, so I use my hobby as a dd. I love it when people make comments about the fuel economy, or tire size/wear. Yes, it costs me to use it, however, I figure the cost is the cost of my enjoyment, it's gonna cost you. My family doesn't have cable tv, and we watch our funds carefully. Before you go to making rash decisions, look around and see what you can save money on, do you need cable, can you cut back on other expenditures? IF you truly enjoy the hobby, it would be a drag to give it up. I don't pay to wheel (haven't yet). I've posted up several times when I've headed out. My favorite spot to wheel is probably closer to you than to me. I'm sure you are weighing your options.
