The NEXT SNOW RUN (April?)

Well, I agree before lunch we did not make it very far. Those of us in the back bearly even got our wheels in the snow.

The group that hit the snow after lunch did much better. We actually considered going all the way over the pass!! Was probably less than a mile from where we were. But we decided to play it safe and ended up rescuing a few people on the way back out.

I must admit the snow today was the most technical snow I can remember wheeling in! It was not forgiving at all! But, on the other hand it did not get all iced up and make it difficult to stop.

Thanks again for a great trip guys!!

Michael

Glad to hear you guys had a good time. So Michael why is it that every time we go on a snowrun the groups does SO much better after lunch. Must be something to do with the warmer air temp or lunch gives time for the tires to cool and stick better.

Time to start thinking of summer wheeling.

Here are a few pix. We all will have to go up there this summer to the summit or something.

I think that I am going to one of those this year already. I may have to go to two unless I don't meet the requirements.:sunshine:

Precisely! After lunch we (Ian, Michael, Me, John-black TJ- and WA-HCXJ) headed up the Denny road that leads up to the pass. Coincidentally, this was the road where I got so totally and famously stuck a few months ago.

Anyway, it was AWESOME! With the wider tires, and aired down to 8 psi, I was able to creep along on top of the snow. Anytime I sank, I was able to reverse a few feet and idle up on top again. We lost the black 2-door first (WA-HCXJ), and parked him off to the side after digging him out. John in the black Wrangler did an admirable job of keeping up, but it was just too much after a while. Ian (Slacker87XJ), Michael (2xtreme) and I were able to push on a good deal longer, past a late-80's Ford F-250 4x4 that was "stuck" in the snow. To say he was stuck is not totally accurate: He was buried up to the roof in snow. We got a great group shot of us standing on top of it. :)

It was very gratifying to creep right past where I was stuck before last month without a problem. As Michael said, it was VERY tempting to keep pressing on to the pass. Had it been earlier in the day, I'm sure we would have tried it.

On our way out, we came across a late model (2001-ish) Nissan Pathfinder 4x4 Off-Road pkg (ha!) that was totally stuck, and a group of people stuffing twigs and gravel under the tires..they were going nowhere fast. After hooking them up and winching them out, they were on their way, a little sheepish and humble.

I hate to say it, but those who passed on the 2nd half of the outing really missed out.

Michael and I had this exact conversation. Sounds like fun.

Thanks to everyone for coming, and making this another successful trip! Until next time-

Another great run! I even got stuck as promised :D Bummer the snow was like mashed potatoes, but still a good day.

Good to see everyone I'd met before and to meet some new people as well.

I think we have another convert: My buddy Matt who rode shotgun with me the whole day went home to convince his wife that they needed to sell their old beater F150 and get an old beater XJ :D

Jeep: 1
Ford: -2 (for the F250 buried in the snowbank)

thanks for lettin me ride in your jeep, slacker, and the air, sorry about having to push my beater out of the road cause she's so stock and im so happy on the go pedal. had a great time though, still want some cupholer armrests?? buy me a medium sized sheet of steel, some 3 inch tubing, and a case of beer, and i could make you two cupholder, they will even look better than mine.
