The Frog Blog

I'm in a dry spell. After coming back from 5 days in San Diego, I've discovered that I have nothing new to add to the Frog Blog. To make things worse, I didn't do much this weekend other than a quick trip to Rollins Lake for some fishing, and I have no real plans for this coming weekend either. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. I've got nothing going on with the Jeep and nothing to write about.

This has been a pointless Frog Blog update. Thank you for visiting.

Think small!

Think mini . . . mini skids are cheep, easy to weld on and can save your lower control arm mounts from ripping off. I have seen too many LCA mounts fail. Might also want to put a weld on the inside of the mount as they are only welded on the outside from the factory.

If you were looking for something to do this weekend . . . I bet you can get them shipped to you before friday for under $40.

^This.

I have some currie skids waiting to go on my new d30, I think you can get them for cheap.

My current lp d30 mounts are banana peeled back, I guess they're self clearanced.

I'm digging the thought of LCA skids. My kid has some that Illustrated XJ gave him, so I could buy a set for my rig and we could get them both welded up at the same time. Good call.

I was posting a new job requisition on our company job board recently and noticed an interesting position open in central Florida that I am well qualified for. That got me seriously thinking about a move. Ironically, the wife and I have been hunting for a large house and peparing our current home for a quick sale if needed.

This Florida move would certainly allow me to move into a larger home, pay less tax, and be near family, but I can't even contemplate being away from the Sierra Nevadas and Rocklin's proximity to Tahoe, Napa, the redwoods, the coast, and all things camping, fishing, hiking, and wheeling that can be done in this area.

I checked out the lame SEC chapter (no offense...I am just a SC kind of guy) and did not find much wheeling prospect for central Florida. I wonder if I could be happy trading my trailer and beloved XJ that I just started building for a large fishing boat. Yeah, that is one of my conditions. I'd give up my camping and wheeling lifestyle for a sweet boat and house with a dock and waterway that leads to the ocean.

This is not a new thought, but one that has been renewed by that job announcement. 100K XJ is in college and I have another kid in elementary school, making this a perfect time for the move. Tonight will be entertaining, to say the least, when I drop this news on my wife. Wish me luck.

This has been a Frog Blog potential job change announcement. Please resume your daily activities.

Don't sell the XJ. Just drive it up to Indiana for Winterfest once a Year! Its only 19 hours! :D

HAHA.

I call first dibs on the frog.

I'll give you 10 dollars.

That is mighty generous of you, but you know the Frog is worth less than 10 bucks! I could not treat a fellow SC member that way.

By the way, I dropped the idea on my wife and she would not even acknowledge the question. We used to live in Fla years ago and I think we both took a vow to never return. I do like the idea of a big ass boat, however...and if I sold the Frog you to for 10 bucks, I would not be haunted by the sustained RMS leak.

I tried some high mileage 10w40 Castrol, but that made the leak worse for some reason. After the RMS install, I bought some regular 10W40 Castrol. You recommend something different?

I run 10w30 Mobil. It's ok.

But, I've looked into it, and Im changing to Mobil 1 High Mileage, 10w40. (There was a thread recommending this)

It's a bit thicker, and most importantly, it has the SL rating, which is good for the flat tappet style motor. Along with the high mileage additive package.
Anything mobil works well, but the 10w30 is so good, it's running past my seals. haha

I may have lied to you. I have used Mobile High Mileage, as well as Catrol. Admittedly, I have not researched other oil types on the forum, but I probably should. When I removed the oil pan for the RMS, the pan inside was impressively clean, so I stayed with Mobile, Penzoil, and Castrol, buying whatever is on sale at the time.

Speaking of RMS, I need to get the kid energized and have him replace his rear main seal on the Green Machine. Now there are two Jeeps dripping one drop of oil in my driveway every day. Old Blue never leaked. Ahhhhh, I miss that Jeep.

I buy whatever 10-30 is on sale and change the oil frequently. :repair:

What is considered a high mileage motor. Mine has 110k and have been told it's a baby. My '99 is coming up for an oil change. I run Castrol Syntec in my JK, but not sure if there is a prefered oil.
