The Frog Blog

I don't mean to make light of your brother's plight, but seriously, that's just amusing. Stay away from the XJ!

Ah he didn't care. I think I'm more worried than he is. I am gonna find him a trunk lid without a wing so he can see better. Which is kind of lame because I haven't backed into anything and I have a tire on my bumper!

Meet Gadget, the newest member of the family and vehicle #31 for me. Gadget is a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland with the 5.7L Hemi and the Nav/DVD entertainment package. Perfect shape, fully loaded, low miles, and a very good price. This Jeep replaces my DD, which is a 2008 Honda Civic EX-L (somebody buy it please). Once again, we are a 3-Jeep family, which is the way God intended it.

Today I used my NAXJA membership and got 5% off at the dealer when I bought new floor mats and junk. Gotta love that.

Just a few driveway pics until I can get it on the trail...I mean...mall. Here it is parked next to the Green Machine.

Future plans include a 2" budget lift and 31" Toyos.

Now, back to the FB....

Looks great man! I take it it has the F/R LSD's in it since its an overland?

Yes it does. According to allpar.com, the 2006 5.7L V8 with Hemi has the NV245 Quadra-Drive II transfer case with electronic limited slip differentials (ELSD). The interesting thing I read was that TC is the new benchmark for transfer cases, presumably for overweight SUVs that will only see the loose dirt on the edges of busy parking lots.

It also has a reworked 5-link rear suspension for that year and an all new Grand Cherokee short-and-long arm (SLA) independent front supsension and a hydraulic-controlled active stabilizer system as part of its Dynamic Handling System (DHS). Additionally, for the first time in 2005, the WK came with an Electronic Stability Program (ESP) for aiding in maintaining vehicle directional stability in severe driving maneuvers.

That's a ton of expensive acronyms for controlling the exact thing we come to expect in our beloved XJs! However, I must say that after driving this beast for a few miles, I'm totally digging it.

SO........ I am about to pull the trigger on some upper quarter guards from JCR(i know big shocker):D

The guards do provide protection. They are great for keeping the pin-striping off from the scratches of the lower bushes, sticks and branches. Also that is the one area that seems to find the tree or rock on the tighter turns and it should help push the rig away and not just fold in as easy as just the body does.

I agree the XJ looks much better with the body lines in the back then the cut and fold style. If you are not running the harder trails where you need the clearance, and drop off on to them all the time, the top correr issue is just something to watch out for.

I agree about the body lines, that and it would look like ass with a cut n fold and a JCR rear bumper. At redbird you really need rear quarter protection on trail 21 when we do the clean ups.

A few of us did Strawberry Pass today to start off Sierra Fest. Nice trail, but fairly easy. I did find a nice rock to drop off of and I actually hit my driver's side quarter panel. No damage.

I'll be heading back up to Hermit campground on Friday after a work day tomorrow. Many more pics to come...

U GUYS SUCK!!!

wish i could make the trip up!! sucky!!! can't wait to see the trip pics when its all said and done. guess if i would have not gone to the 'con last weekend i could have made it.

I made it back from Sierra Fest today with little to no damage to speak of. This was a great event that words cannot adequately describe. I may post some of the best pics here in the coming days, but that won't even do justice to the incredible time I had at this NAXJA event.

I was able to participate in Strawberry Pass (Wed), Deer Valley (Sat), and Slick Rock (Sun). Great time. Amazing, really.

So I have decided to put off buying rear quarter guards for a little while longer. Got a line on an 8.8 with a Detroit and 4.10's to match the front axle I just bought. :D Fully locked DD sounds good right?

Oh yes, your plans sound good fo sho. 4.10's and 32x11.50's, right? You'll rock the Casbah.

By the way, my rear 1/4 panels came in handy last weekend. Took a few hits that would have left some serious marks otherwise.

OK, different subject and I need your opinions.

Redwolf3 was cool enough to fling me his winning Tomken gift card that he won during Sierra Fest. Clearly, he's a cool dude AND a Toyota driver with little ability to use anything from Tomken's line of fine Jeep-related parts, so I have been browsing their catalog looking for parts.

I could replace my stock fuel skid with Tomken's 1/4" steel beast, which will undoubtedly protect my tank, but will certainly add more unnecessary weight to my bloated, underpowered rig.

Or...

I could buy a little bling and add some class to the Frog. What do you guys think of this grill replacement?

Totally unnecessary but unique, nonetheless. Ideas? Opinions?

The last option is a winch plate for my front or rear bumper. I don't have a winch yet, but that could be a worthwhile purchase.

Just get the winch mount. I would like to get one for this winter but now its gonna be locked so I may not need it. Not really for me but to pull out someone if need be . For the love of god, do not get that grille! :puke:

Yeah I think I'm gonna get some KM2's when the 31's wear out. I am happy with my kumhos though. Its already set up for an XJ and comes with the DS.

the grill is pretty ghey. :looser:
i would go for the gas tank armor.
i run a jcr skid & dented it on deer valley.
if it was not there i would have punctured the tank for sure.
