The Frog Blog

I've had far too many things going on to get to the Poker Run pics on my Blog. Here's one teaser until I can dedicate some time to it.

Make sure you post up your winnings and trip pics after the Crawl. I hope to win a winch or other essentials this weekend at the Poker Run. Good luck.

I sure will man, I hear its beautiful country down there in eastern KY.

Looks awesome.

It will be cool to finally meet you guys at sierra Fest.

I have a ton more pics to post but I have not had time to do much with the photos. Hopefully I'll get them up before I leave for Sierra Fest, which is less than a month away. (The trails better not suck because I canceled a weekend family camping trip and am skipping work for the week.)

On an unrelated note, my Brown Dog motor mounts have shipped and there might be a possibility of install this Saturday. Sweet.

that first picture looks like deja vu to me... oh wait, I WAS JUST THERE!!!! My friend and I did the gatekeeper. my jeep did great!! just had to pick all the good lines. Can't wait for my pictures

That's cool. We drove to the Granite Bowl Friday evening, then did the Poker Run Saturday morning. I'd glad we had a chance to make the run on Friday because the rock stackers made the Gatekeeper and other areas way too easy. I asked them about it and they said they had about a 120 vehicles coming through so they had to make it easier.

I'd like to go back at the end of Summer and see if it is back to normal. I'd itching to to the whole run from Loon Lake to Tahoe, but I doubt I'll make that this year.

My hands sucked, but I did manage to win 50% off anything from SuperLift.com. I don't think there is much there that I can use, but maybe I can give the coupon to somebody who can.

whens the next trip?

Not sure. I've got crap planned every weekend, from wine tasting, to helping the scouts, to rebuilding my master bath. We are camping for the week in Tahoe over the July 4th weekend, to boot, so I expect no more wheeling until Sierra Fest.

Besides, I've got some Brown Dog motor mounts coming in that I want to install first....

well you have your hands full... let me know the next time you guys want to head up there again. im always down!

Bring the SWR meter when you do. I have two antennas to tune.

I'm hoping my motor mounts arrive this weekend so I can change them out before my trip to Tahoe next week. I also have a large amount of popping from the suspension so I will need to retorque everything, thanks to some moderate abuse on the Rubicon last weekend.

It's prolly also time to change some fluids, plugs, wires, etc. I need to regain my lost HPs cuz my rig sort of sucks in its old age. APN header and performance exhaust are my very next upgrades, which will add more power.

np!! the meter has been in the same spot since i left your house haha!! in under the back seat still in the box buddy, if you need it i could swing by on my way back from the 'con.

Here are a few pictures from a short trip on the Rubicon last Friday, June 18th. After setting up camp at Airport Flat, we took my wife and little kid to the Granite Bowl before in preparation for Saturday's Poker Run. My wife did not like this at all.

Here we are heading through the Gate Keeper.

Getting a little spot from 100K XJ.

Happy as a clam. No carnage.

Here's a couple of good flex shots of 100K XJ in Alligator Alley. My Jeep is still better than his.

This big rock on the left really pisses me off after leaving some blue paint on it a few years ago from Old Blue. It did not pose much of an obstacle with either of our Jeeps on this trip.

It looks like somebody else left some paint on it recently. Glad it wasn't me.

hahaha that rock that had paint on it!! it almost took my paint! was there a huge puddle right after that rock? cause when i was going through it there was a massive puddle then you went through some trees and up and out. you also might have noticed some rocks had scratches on them... yea those are from my sliders HAHAHA

That rock sucks. I got in a precarious position with my old blue XJ and could do nothing but just accept the scratch and keep wheeling. That's part of the sport, I guess.

Here's the pic from a couple of years ago. I was on 31" tires and open front, ltd slip rear.

For those of you contemplating new motor mounts, I suggest going with Brown Dog Offroad. Not only is their customer service outstanding, but their products are high quality, look great, and are made in the USA. Here is what I did yesterday...

After wheeling for a few months and noticing some strange engine vibes, I inspected my engine mounts and found the driver's side to be cracked. The good thing about Cherokee mounts is when the rubber cracks, the metal bracket holds everything together. That's just good engineering.

I did some research on NAXJA and read up on Brown Dog's mounts. By the way, "dog" and "mount" should never be used in the same sentence...but I digress. I called them up, gave them my NAXJA info, and got a great price on the K2572-0 upgrade kit with polyurethane engine brackets. They even called me up later that day to make sure I was not planning to go with an aftermarket header, which I said that I would. They changed the order and sent me the set that will fit an APN header.

The install was not too bad. I had to remove my JCR transfer case skid to get to my tranny mount bolts, but I took the opportunity to repaint it and replace some hardware. Funny how a couple trips on the Rubicon will play havoc on your parts.

You can see the cracked rubber bushing in this photo.

Here are the driver's side mounts sitting side by side. See any difference between the two? I prefer the purty yeller ones.

Typical carnage...

Here's a nice shot of the underside of the driver's side mount.

...and a top shot. I totally dig the American flag. Nice touch, Brown Dog!

This is not a difficult install. If you have access to your tranny mount bolts, you can have this job done in a matter of two hours, max. I had some trouble with the passenger side but after I removed the through bolt and installed it in two pieces, it went together like beer and nachos. I actually called them up late on Saturday and they were happy to give me that advice. Really good service. Well worth the money.

After driving a bit, I am very impressed with the feel of the mounts. My stock mounts must have been cracked since I have owned the Jeep because it has NEVER feel as solid and vibration free as it does now. A+ to Brown Dog. I am a completely happy customer and I think this is one of the best upgrades I have done.

Aha! I see the difference between the OEM header and aftermarket header versions now. Once you get that APN header installed, you'll have to let me know just how close it gets to the top of your engine bracket. Looks good! Oh and careful the next time you degrease your engine, I found out those American flags don't like Simple Green...
