i've got some new 34" tires waiting to be mounted, but first i need some clearance...

joey/led: can we have a cutting party after the meeting next saturday down in your neck of the woods?
i'd like someone who's done this before oversee this little project.
if so, let me know where and when (and what brew you prefer, if that'll suffice).

if possible, i think i'd like to do something a little different though:

here is the current (stock) setup...

can i do this?

otherwise i may just do this (to the first 'fold')...
chop2.jpg

any thoughts?

should i give any creedance to hinkley's recent post that this is the worst mod you can do as it weakens the unibody?
this is on an '01 if it matters...

thanks!

I don't know hinkley and I don't see how this mod weakens the unibody. I originally did this mod because of some damage sustained on Carnage (Boulder). If you want to trim the wheel wells to fit your 34's we can do that. If you want to do the fold we can do that to. The true purose of the fold (IMO), is to open wheel well as much as possible. At the same time you should be planning on how you'r going to protect the folded area.

Yep, we can check out Western Steel (probably be expensive). Jeff and I were discussing a mass purchase of tubing in next couple of months. If you'd want to wait and get in on the purchase w/ us. Save some $$$$

Terry and Joey,

I'd like to hang out while you chop Terry's fenders. I gotta do the same to mine anyway and I'd like to get an idea what's involved. I'm not likely gonna bring the Heep - 2 bent rims from Indy. :laugh3:
Plus, I'll be coming right from work so I'm gonna be a little too tired to be cutting on my junk.

So, If'n ya don't mind me peering over your shoulders.....

so where is this shop (or is it an airplane hanger) anyway? how far from the meeting?

drop me an address i can plunk into mapquest please...

thanks.
;)

Its at Meadowlake Airport between Falcon and Peyton-Hwy 24& Judge Orr Road.About 8-10 miles from the meeting.Woodmen road takes you almost all the way there and Fairicy Jeep(meeting site) is on Woodmen Road so it's damn near a straight shot out to the shop-About 10-15 min. drive.I got your PM just didn't have time to reply this morning. We'll talk about shock mounts Sat. if thats ok w/you. :lecture: Troy you most certainly can come out to the shop and hang with us.

...so is D&C Extreme anywhere nearby?

john (cruzzinXJ) are you coming to the meeting?
i'd like to take a closer look at the 4-door late-model version of their cage...

thanks... but isn't there some difference (i thought) in the late-model cage?
seems i heard that john's was the only '97+ D&C cage around so far...

Hey, is there room to get some help on a fabbin' a bumper? Even if it is help with a card board cutout. Would it help if we threw the welder in the back? At any rate my son and I would like to hang out too and check out some of your fabrications if there is room for more.

Sure, there's room. All our fabrications are on our jeeps (Led, Jeff and I). We're low on materials (busy summer), but if you have the materials we'll gladly lend a hand.

chop & lift ?

hmmmm-- sounds like we'll have plenty of man power...
maybe i'll throw my new leaf springs in the back in case we get bored!

thanks to led, jeff, and joey for providing the space/tools for my fender trimming and HUGE thanks to joey for wielding that angle grinder like an artist!

i'm officially "chopped" now... time to start thinking about a custom rear bumper... hmmm. ;)

i'll try to get some pix up later.

joey i owe you one.

terry

still need to design a rear bumper, but here are the otherwise finished results:

Looks sweet. Nice to see somebody knows how to take a decent pix.

I like that alot. Looks good. I guess I'll have to put that on the list of stuff to do with my 60th XJ.

question about those rims. I have those and thought about going to a 34 or 35" tire aswell and how is the back spacing withthose. are you useing spacers on that. I didn't think the bs would be enough for them.

that and I can't tell in the pic that well but do you have rockers on your rig?
