Its been a really cool project. We have had about 18 guys from the local high school working on it every Saturday and after school in the evenings. They are learning to weld, plasma cut, grind, measure, cut, form, etc. Its been a blast to see these guys jump into this dying art as well as the few of them that have taken all my JP and Petersons home with them and are scouring Craigs list for XJs.

We will have 5 pc of 1/2" industrial bungee going over rollers and down to the back side stretching roughly 26' to at least 110% capacity. It wont have the release force I was hoping for but it will still be quite substantial.

As a side note: This is the reason nothing is getting done on my jeeps. Might as well just post on this LOL

That's awesome. I wish I had an opportunity to learn that stuff when I was 15-16. I got pretty good at woodworking back then but didn't touch metalworking until my sophomore year in college.

The coolest thing has been the comeradery between the 6th grade boys and the the 16-17 year olds. They all work together and the older ones are actually teaching the younger ones once they know. Not all the welds look perfect. its not completely square. I am going behind and double checking everything structural, but these guys have been awesome. I have 2 older boys that show up every night from 7-9 and do finish welding and more structure work while I'm doing my next day prep.

I think the recurring theme on D30 R&P failures is the stock carrier. How many have had a failure with a full case locker?

I've seen about half a dozen with detroit and arb carriers.

I think MattyJ broke two gearsets on his D30 with a detroit. IIRC, you were there for one of them.
