I am having 33x12.50x15 GY MTR's installed on 15x8 aluminum wheels this weekend. I am torn on how to balance them for all around performance. What's the preferred method.

Thanks

I have had good luck using the stick on lead weights. Like Dave said the clip on weights will either come off or move around while wheeling. Tell the tire guy to do a static balance, weights on the inside only, and call it done. Ran through 2 sets of 33's with mine balanced just like this.

I like(d) the stick on weights. The only drawback is when you're not running beadlocks, the wheels tend to spin in the tires, even on the street. I made sure I had lifetime ballancing and generally had to have my wheels ballanced at least four times a year.

I have installed a ton of Goodyear tires and they balance out really well, you dont need any equal or air soft BBs for a nice radial tire especially in a 33". There mostly for Super Swampers and larger tires like a 37" and up.

Also as of January 1st 2010 California no longer allows the used of any kind of lead weights so steel is the only way to go.

If it helps any I do pound on weights on 15" steel wheel just cause most if the time the caliper will rub and knock the sticky weights off. If you did pound on weights on the inside they should balance out great. Most new MTRs I have done only require a couple oz of weight at the most.

Thanks for the feedback. So far I am leaning towards adhesive weights on the inside and making sure I can get lifetime rebalancing. I will make sure there is clearance with caliper. I have had that problem with the GTO and larger brakes in the past.

All great advice, Thanks again.

I lost 5 or 6 weights on our deer valley trip last summer.

When I got my moabs, brand new, I made sure to get stick on, no issues now.

I choose airsoft BBs because I do my own mounting (Harbor Freight tire changer) and with airsoft BBs I can balance at home. I guess one could get a bubble balancer and do it at home but the BBs are just easy and have been working for me.

Does anyone run with the airsoft BB's?

I have airsoft BB's in the '96. 35's with DIY beadlocks. They work just like the innovative ones I put in the '91, except at slower speeds you can feel the tires go out of balance.

I don't know how much is in there. The guys that built it put them in.
