So I finally got around to making myself a tire carrier, the bumper I made years ago tell myself that I will put a tire carrier on it and.... well you know how that goes next week turns to next month to next year... I kinda just took what I had laying around for steel and made it work, I just wanted some opinions on what I can improve and what you do and dont like.

What I had to work with..

what you think??

hinge looks weak but other than that it looks good.

looks great i like the taillights, i got to do me some of those...

the hinge look weak. I have heard of someone using part of a trailer axle as their hinge and they didnt have any problems that I know of. Also, the latch looks like it could use some beefing up as well. Other than that, good job

Looks good. For a stronger hinge I used 1.5 in./.25 in. dom and a 1 in. pin from a farm supply. You could probably make it look nicer than I did.

Crude but real strong.

I agree with the above posts but it looks nice overall. What size tire is that?

haha it's my space saver 34/9.50R15 once I get the cash I'll grab another crawler. And I agree with my hinge that it should be a little more burly, it is a 1" grade 8 bold that is all sorts of welded and re enforced in tere but it still makes me nervous. As for the latch a plan to do a little more to that to stiffen it up and thanks for the good input!

Oh and Ironmen77 do you have the same hummer sticker that i do?? haha if so thats awesome. I like your design, does it flex at all?

probably the same sticker.

Does what flex, the tire carrier?

Yea when it's open, do you get any flex with it or is it pretty solid?

It's very solid. I can get out on the end of it and swing it all the way open only the springs flex.

Just noticed this thread... I don't venture into the picture forum much.

Looks pretty good Eric, besides the hinge as others mentioned, but I'm sure it'll work just fine for now. :)
Where are you doing all the work now that City Tire is no more?
Also, why in some of the pictures do you have NH plates and some MA plates?

I'm doing all the work in my garage, I have everything I need besides a tube bender and a lift. My family owns a dealership in NH so I have dealer plates but I recently got my jeep inspected to back to the MA plates for now. Thanks man, I'm going to do some definite beefing up on the hinge and latch I am always nervous about the latch letting go randomly haha so i needa finally fix that.
