Next Friday I have to head up to Camp Chawanakee at Shaver Lake for BSA Camp School, which doesnt start until Saturday morning.

I was googling whats in the area and noticed that its pretty close to the Swamp Lake area, and I remember you guys did a run up there last Summer

How are the trails? Am I asking for trouble if I do a day-run there on Friday before it starts?

I doubt that trail is open just yet. The Shaver Lake trails don't usually open until around July, with the exception of Bald Mtn which should be open all year long. Its worth the drive up Bald if you are in the area. Lots of places to play along the way.

Well, he could MAYBE go in from the south entrance and get up to the top of the first hill. That stays open most the year.

I would not waste my time with that and just hit up Bald Mt. Much more fun this time of the year.

How far is Bald Mountain from there? How difficult of a trail is it?

I'm still debating if I'll bring the XJ or just take my Honda so more of my "mileage" reimbursement goes in the bank instead of the tank.

Also if I do decide to bring the Jeep and wheel, is anyone availble to go next Friday? I know I shouldn't wheel alone.

Its closer to the Scout campground than Swamp. The trail is easy going but fun with some harder places to screw around if you want to.

I'd take the Honda and save some gas and then come back in a few month and check out the area in a weekend camping excursion.

If it was Saturday or Sunday I can make it.

Well, I'll be taking the Honda and saving the cash to fix whatever is wrong with my front axle after Spangler Hills last weekend. Rt front wheel wont spin in reverse. Weird.
