TDS Has Moved This Year...

So I heard today that the run, the "official run" is even off... time constraints with cultural & archaeological hoops is making it a no go...

54th TDS Desert Safari 2016
To answer all your questions. There has been no organized events in the OWSVRA this desert season. This is caused from the possible listing of the Flat Tail Horned Lizard. The park has to take all the precautions of it being listed until the final hearing. Which has caused TDS to relocate to a new location at the end of Palm Wash next to the Salton Sea at West Shores RV & Storage. At the end of the day this is great for us and our logistics. We have more resources to work from now. Once we found a new home we recognized the need for some organized trails, so we went up the road to RedEarth Casino and met with the GM & CFO. They gave us permission to explore their back property to see if there is usable trails back there. We made 13 trips back cutting in trails that would work for the mild to the wild side of wheeling. Now that we have created these they have to have a cultural review and impact statement done to protect them and us into the future. This 3rd party review will take up to 90 days to be completed and at an expense of about $15,000.00 to us. The short story of this is that we have been very busy working to keep this event alive with the quality that you're use to with adding huge improvements, but we're out of time. We will not have an organized trail for you this year. This saddens us greatly but the future of the trails will be worth the wait. The Desert Safari will be the great event it always has been with the vendors, drawing, and fireworks. You'll still have the full use of your open use park. We will have maps with all the major destinations and GPS coordinates.
Thank you for supporting us, that's what family does with change.

I haven't had a chance to wash and wax the jeep, so I don't think we'll make it out this year. Plus I got to get ready for something I just can't remember what.

Dallas and I will be out there at the SFR booth. Stop by and say hi, if you show up.

Had an okay time I guess... Got to say Hi to Cal. Drove on the beach so now my truck smells like salt and fish that's been dead for a thousand years, dipped in urine.

Fireworks show was cool. Lots of good prizes as usual, but I didn't participate. Too damn broke to pay 65 bux for one raffle ticket.

Major dust storm Sunday morning w/35-40 mph winds...

Crappy cel-phone pix from the notches Friday night.

man the notches have really degraded in the last couple of years

I was at TDS 2016, this was a bit of a disappointment. If it was not for other people in my group we would not have known of the new Vendor Row location or the fact the RUN WAS OFF. I Paid 65 for reg and raffle ticket. That was not cool! I looked for and found official to find out they are looking to hold 2017 on the Indian reservation to avoid BLM Feds. they just give up, what did they do with all the cash to keep land open?

Very windy Sunday ran away at 10am

We were talking about the location change here a month out... unfortunately the cancellation of the run was a bit late and disappointing... but I'm positive it wasn't for a lack of trying... It is sad that a club this size is slowly being pushed into a corner... Same thing happened to the Indio club 20 yrs. ago... which dated back further than the TDS run...

TDS is a long standing club with decades of efforts to keep public lands open for all. I'm sure you can check the TDS website and touch bases with them on their efforts and how the $ has been & will be spent...
Seeing all the Sheriff & Rangers probably took a big chunk of it (maybe not ?)

As Cal & MudButt mentioned the notches (and the area in general) are being abused by a newer element... having the event back on the N. side of S-22 brought allot of JACKASSES ! and chaos back to the Truckhaven side...
Anyone hear of a death ? I saw something about one and the rig looked like an XJ on it's lid.

The plus was seeing Cal... Paul... Tone... a Jeeper John drive-by... as well as several other Jeeper & Wheeler friends...
Fortunately it's 40 mins. away so I'll head down when the jackasses are elsewhere...

Sorry you had a bad time, but you have your facts a bit incorrect. They could not obtain a permit from the BLM for this years event, because the BLM has stopped issuing permits for that area in general. Therefore they tried to have the run on Tribal Land, but the environmental study could not be completed before the run and the run was canceled. For 2017, the run will be on Tribal Land, eliminating the question if the BLM will be issuing permits next year.

On the bright side, the money you paid for the registration goes not only to a good event, but to a group that works hard to keep areas open for us to recreate. You could look at it that you supported keeping the area open for you to enjoy in years to come!

Yeah it was a zoo... But I was a virgin, it was the first time I've ever been there. Having spent quite a few years off-road racing in Mexico, it wasn't too different... Definitely a party scene, but borderline chaos.

...They could not obtain a permit from the BLM for this years event, because the BLM has stopped issuing permits for that area in general...
I heard it was because they are trying to determine if the flat tailed horned lizard needs to be put on the endangered species list or not. I hope not... I grew up dirt poor in Apple Valley/Victorville... They were my only play toys back then :)

You are correct, I misworded it. The TDS site listed the BLM was not issuing permits because of the lizard and the BLM was taking precautions until the final hearing. I was mainly trying to emphasize that regardless of a run or not, supporting the event is a good thing.
