Tcase Tailhousing

I have a 96XJ and I'm swapping out the tcase(loose chain). It has a NP231J. I picked up an NP231J out of a 95XJ. I noticed the tailhousing is different. Mine is shorter and has a boot on it. The one out of the 95 is longer with no boot. Will this be a problem? The spline count is 23 and the tag on the used tcase says NP231J. I plan on lifting the XJ 2.5" after i swap the tcases.

Thanks

If you also swap rear driveshafts you are fine. Your driveshaft is significantly longer than will fit with the older case iirc.

Get a driveshaft out of a 91-95 XJ with a 4.0, same tranny as yours, and same rearend as yours and it will fit great.

I suspect you can also swap the rear output shaft, housing, etc from your case onto the new case, but you will need a new rear output seal.
