Taurus fan idea

Can you use a 180* t-stat and a Taurus fan assembly and hook the Taurus fan assembly to the A/C circuit. I bet it will run at about the same temp and free up some throttle response and HP.

Not sure what year you have but here is some stuff I have done.

I have an 89 xj which I removed the clutch fan and replaced it with a Taurus fan. I still have the oem fan as well with no mods to it. I used an adjustable Derele temp controller (SUMMIT) wired to an 85 amp reley and seperate fuse and power. I also used the thermostat housing from an HO since it is already set up for a threaded temp sensor port to which I installed the sensor from the Derele kit. The kit also includes a wire to connect to your A/C so it will come on when it is activated. The Taurus fan pulls 85 amps so you will want to give it a dedicated power supply. I adjusted the fan-on setting to turn on at 200 (factory fan comes on at 210). It took a few miles and some off roading to get the ON setting where I wanted it. The cool thing with this is I can change it when ever needed.

The factory temp to go from open/closed loop is 195. If you do not let the temp achieve this you will not allow the O2 sensor to kick in.

I have been running this setup for about a year now and love it.

I used the AC fan power as a secondary trigger for the Fan relay. There are 2 triggers now.

The AUX fan power isn't enough amperage to drive the taurus fan.

I can see where the additional 85a load can quickly stress out the oem battery & alternator.

How is your battery & alternator holding up to the additional 85Amp load of the fan?
Did you have to beef them up to handle the load?

I use a seperate wire from a Walmart Battery to the 85 amp reley (which looks like a Ford starter solinoid) to a 85 amp fuse to the fan. I also found a 140 amp alternator at Summit which I installed. I did not need it. I added it just as an upgrade to help my whole system. Although you can see your gauge move when the fan goes off or on I do not have any charging issues. And I run four extra lights.

I also use the wire that would normally go to the A/C for a seperate switch I have inside to manually turn on the fan. The oem fan is already wired to turn on when you run the A/C. I did not see a need to have both. This way I can just hit the switch to tun on the fan. I thought I would do this as a precaution mostly, but I have found I never seem to use it.

Power from battery to thermo switch, From thermo switch through diode to coil on relay. Power from aux fan to diode to coil on relay. Other side of relay coil grounded. Diodes prevent feedback voltage, some others have voiced concern about damage to the OEM system if you feed voltage the wrong way.

Thanks. I've considered this as well but I would like to isolate it to temperature trigger and ignore the A/C clutch. Maybe another 5-pin relay on teh clutch circuit to disable the aux fan signal wire
