Ok, i'm a bit confused (yeah I know, that doesn't take much...)

In the middle of doing an Advance Adapters SYE on a 231. Got the new shaft on and trying to get the case closed back up. Following the video they (AA) have on their website (http://www.advanceadapters.com/products/new-process-231j-fixed-yoke-kit/). Fast forward to 7:13 in the video and they show the alignment of the shift fork, with the case in 4 low. Now if I understand it correctly, both lugs need to be in line with each other just like they are in the video? If so, mine are correct (see picture below)

Now fast forward to 8:23 in the video, where they attempt to turn everything with the case still split and it binds. When I do this right now, it is not binding. When I put the case back together, it would bind in both 2 HI and 4 LO settings. What am I doing wrong here??? This is the first case i've split open, so i'm learning as I go...

when you say bind you mean it wont spin at all?

not really sure here.... i just slapped mine back together and everything worked..... sure the case remained in 4lo the whole time you had it out?

put the case on its side Assembled, does it bind then?

Basically the output shaft will turn half a revolution or so and then bind when the case is together. Exactly like it should be doing when the case is apart according to their video.

Ran it through all settings when I put it back together and put it on its side, and it got bound up in both 4x4 settings.

Stand it up, open it back up, and try to spin it with the front half of the case not attached? It should bind and it doesn't...(going by the video).

are you fully assembling it? If the case is laying open on its studs it will turn. If you assemble part way without all the snaprings/ yoke, the rear output hasnt been drawn towards the tailhousing yet and it will bind.

When it binds, spin the front yoke a bit to see if it frees up. I have 3 of these AA kits in my XJ's and have never had a issue. Its the best kit out there. Your T-case looks clean and very little wear.

Now see, that makes sense. How come in the video on their website they say it will bind if you have the case open and try to turn it?

Let me know if you still have this problem after tomorrow. I might shot up and see what I can do to help. We did one here on 00classic's xj in the jeep. Was done by lunch.

Will do! Took a break tonight on it and got an invitation to go ride 4-wheelers in West Virginia with my dad tomorrow, so i'm leaving town at 5am. I plan to pick up on it some more Sunday.

Got it fully back together this morning and everything works perfectly. Just need to throw it under the Jeep now!

what was the issue?

Had to get everything bolted up and in place (snap rings, tailcone and all). I guess it was a matter of things being just a bit out of place.

Guess the video on AA's website is a load of crap...

figured.... i bolted it all together before i checked anything... the mainshaft needs to be in a specific place for everything to line up
