sye front driveshaft

ok hate to bring up a dead thread but i didnt quite see al info i might need, i have a 94 aw4 np231, and soon to be 5.5", will a front shaft outta the same jeep just bolt up to a hd sye and my 8.25?

only 1 way to know for sure... measure. I also have a 94 auto AA SYE D44 rear. I carry 1 spare shaft for either front or rear.

I had to bring this post up from the dead to add a question...

Can I run front driveshaft with a 2" lift? Will it bottom out under full compression? If it's to long, will a manual shaft work? How about a TJ shaft?

I want to add a SYE to reduce vibes, but I don't want a custom shaft for my 2" BB. I also don't want to drop the t-case and negate the benefits of my BB.

Should be fine, I just did the same on my '99 with a 2"" and had no problems at all. Used a H&T from PORC and an XJ front shaft from the junkyard, fit great.

OK up from the dead again.

This is my combo, except for 2° shim at the moment, to be replaced w/ 6° to fix angles. Right now, with it off some degrees, I'm at 34" yoke to yoke with no engine in it yet. I can streeetch my front driveshaft to fit, but can just see the tips of the splines peeking out from the seals. I'm pretty much at full droop at this dimension. What's your measurement from trans flange to axle flange if I may ask?

I just finished my sye/front shaft install yesterday and it works great. No one has posted results for a Dana 44/front shaft combo so I thought I would.

XJ Dana 44 axle
PORC HD SYE conversion
Front shaft from an auto XJ
My XJ has an AW4.
5 inches lift.
At ride height the drive shaft slip joint is extended 2 inches
With the axle hanging at full droop (8 inches) the drive shaft slip joint is extended 2-1/4 inches.
I cant fully compress the springs but since I have only 5 inches of bump travel and the springs have little arch at ride height I have no concerns about bottoming the shaft.

4 degree axle shim
2 inch lift from a shackle (adds 3 degrees)
Had to adjust the bastard pack accordingly to keep the lift at 5 inches.

i instelled an AA sye and had the local driveline shop cut the old tube out and weld in a longer one 36 inches if i remember correctly on an 8' lift it ran me 150 and a couple hour turn around

was thinking of putting in a tc from a rubicon if i get 2 front shafts from a rubi as well can i get yolks in the junkyard from something else to fit the rubi shafts and my 8 1/4 d 30 setup will this work i have an98 xj auto

I noticed one common thing with all the front drive shaft's put in, the rear ends are all 8 1/4's. Has anyone put one of these front drive shafts in a 92 XJ with an auto and D35 rear end. I believe some mentioned about just changing the pinion end of the drive shaft and it would work.

Any thoughts?

PAPXJ has done it in his 1990 and I plan on doing the same in mine. I think you may need the spicer adapter, but I can't remember forsure.

I'm tempted to buy the Advance Adapters SYE kit for my strokered '92 XJ (AX15 5-speed, NP231, D35 rear) rather than do the Hackn'Tap because it has a 32-spline output shaft that's ~50% stronger than the 27-spline stock unit. The problem is finding a CV style driveshaft with slip joint for the rear that'll be the correct length.
My rear driveshaft measures 31.5" from the center of one u-joint to the other and since the AA SYE kit shortens the output shaft by 4.0", I'd need a CV driveshaft that's ~35.5" long. My front driveshaft is only 30.125" from the center of the u-joint nearest the TC to the other on the axle end under full compression so the same one would be ~5.0" too short to use at the rear.
Is there a Jeep/Dodge front driveshaft that's close enough to 35.5" long that I can use? I believe the ZJ front driveshaft is longer than the XJ's but by how much? A double cardan joint adds 2.5" to the length so I was thinking that if the ZJ driveshaft is 32-33" long, I could also add a double cardan joint on the axle end to make it the right length.
I don't want to buy a Tom Woods or other 35.5" driveshaft from the US 'cause it would cost me a small fortune with shipping, so I'm looking for a cheap way out.
