SYE+CV Shaft?

ok guys so it's finnaly time for me to get an SYE kit. i found a place where i can get a good price on one...but do i need to get a new CV shaft or is that just another step up? can i run an SYE kit with the rest or the driveline being stock? oh, it's a 2000 with 4.5 inches on 33's.

if its an auto you can use the front DS from a HP XJ

yeah it is an auto...can i just go grab one from a junkyard and swap it out for the rear shaft after i put the SYE kit on? as for the SYE kit...i was looking at a hack n' tap from RE? or should i just stick with a regular kit?

Hack-n-Tap won't let you run a front driveshaft because it uses a flange:

instead of a yoke:
(oddly, I don't seem to have an installed pic of my PORC SYE)

If you use a yoke, you can run the front shaft on the rear. The picture below shows a front driveshaft with the yoke connector, with an RE Hack-n-Tap driveshaft flange to the right.

ok. sorry. i just read the wholre writeup one the PORC kit. and with that shitty of a review on the RE kit i think i'llstay away from that. when you dropped the front shaft in did it just fit right in place? no mods?

Although the initial driveshaf tthey sent me in the review was the wrong one for a H+T, it actually would have been the right one had I gotten an output yoke instead of the H+T flange. I didn't realize it at the time, and now I'm headed out to the garage to finish putting a yoke-end on the old RE shaft.

The H+T itself ran fine for several years before I decided to upgrade it; the weakest point of the H+T is that it uses the stock output shaft, which can be bent when dropped on a rock. The PORC and similar SYE kits replace the stock output shaft with a heavier one.

The output shaft on the PORC is the same yoke as the front output on the NP231, so there are no mods needed to bolt the front shaft to the rear.

yeah i was talkin to my boy about it and he said once i got the SYE kit the front shaft was a direct bolt in to the rear. he also thought i should get limiting straps tho...i guess the front shaft is a little too short if i flex the rear out really far.

If you need a new shaft go see Scott over at rocky mountain driveline, 45 and tennyson, they do good work

yeah one of my boys mentioned that place to me but he said he's had good luck with front range driveline down in elnglewood.

Check out www.quadratec.com. That's where I got my custom Tom Woods Shaft and SYE conversion as a complete kit, you'll just need to give them some info so they accurately build the shaft. Mine is awesome and it's backed by a trail warranty for breakage

i'm not raggin on your shaft...but i talked to some dude at a shop out here in denver and he said Tom Woods is junk. then again i'm sure he was tryin to sell me his shit but now it makes it that much harder for me to make a choice now ya know? it's like ok who do i believe? sorry if it came off like i was talkin shit man...i wasn't.
