SYE Currie Seal Dimension

Well I have the NP242 and with no HD SYE option available to me, I am going with the next best thing... the hack and tap

Now I have researched this for far too long and I only need one more measurement before I go ahead and order everything

If you have read GoJeep's SYE [ http://www.go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoSYEconversion.htm ]I will be using a similar yoke from Jesse @ High Angle Driveline, obviously it will need a couple modifications but nothing too hardcore

Since I have a 96' case, I have the 1 piece tail cone that seals all the oil in. Now on GoJeeps setup, he has an older case that uses the RE seal, which I don't need.

So I plan to use Old_Man's flange setup and incorporate the yoke instead. This will allow me to butt the yoke against the output bearing just like GoJeep.

Anywho, "fergie" uses the Currie seal part number CE-9069TS and apparently this seal fits the O.D. of the currie flange perfectly...

Now I want to use the Currie seal in conjunction with the yoke from Jesse.

I gave Jesse these specs:
1.172 x 27-spline
1.50 seal diameter
1310 series U-Joint
"It must though also have bolt through U bolts where the nuts for the U bolts end up on the back of the yoke and not a saddle type yoke like the pinion end of the rear driveshaft."


He replied saying that he stocks a yoke to those dimensions so that kicks ass

I e-mailed Currie and haven't heard a response yet... I need to know if anyone on here knows what the dimensions (I.D.) of the seal in question (CE9069TS)

Or if someone knows the O.D. of the flange that currie sells, I can use that spec as well... either will work

It's just a National 473317. I can't remember off the top of my head where else it's used, but it's a common seal. I was able to get a replacement at my local NAPA. Here are other manufacturers cross references from http://www.4x4wire.com/lists/jeepoffroad/200212/msg00012.html

Latest updates require that the yoke be suited to a double cardon or CV joint as well and not just using U bolts. The bolt spacing is different between the two so make sure the yoke you are getting has CV in the part number. The details have been updated on my site last week thanks to a member of this forum ( Kunaji ) finding out the information.

As for butting up to the bearing like I have on a later model sealed output housing, this is a very good idea and cannot see myself why this would not work just like oldmansye write using the yoke instead of the flange. Would save buying the companion yoke conversion too so a XJ front auto driveshaft can be fitted unmodified if you have a auto and DONT have a D35 rear. Otherwise a ZJ front shaft is needed.
Please take photos, part numbers and measurements if you go ahead with this so it can be added to my site write up if you could be so kind.

Marcus, I have the D35 so I will probably end up using the ZJ shaft...however I just need to figure out this bloody tail cone seal, not getting an answer from Currie

The seal that you used for the RE tailcone seal, was the seal O.D. the same diameter as the factory tail cone? If it is, it will eliminate a lot of confusion.

CE-9069TS = the seal I listed above.

According to the CR book for 16657:

Shaft = 1.688" (Size of the shaft it seals)
Bore = 2.328" (Bore it get pressed into)
Width = .313" (Width of seal)

I could not use the RE seal as the yoke diameter is smaller than the RE coupler used.The seal numer of CE-9069TS is the right one given above by stoneattic according to the write up you also quote http://www.4x4getaways.com/oldmansye.htm
Look next to the seal photo at the text in bright yellow. This is a different seal than the one he first used and had to power coat the housing to make it fit. This seal you dont need to do that with.
