Suspension opinions

I'm finally in a position to remove my aged, bastardized suspension and replace it with something real.

I currently have Deaver 5.5" coils, IronMan4x4Fab adjustable control arms, add-a-leaf rear and shocks that probably have 100,000 miles on them.

I'm thinking about moving to IronMan4x4Fab long arms (custom aluminum if I can swing it), TNT Customs belly pan (the only pan on the market to raise ground clearance), RE 4.5" coils, RE 3.5" leafs with adjustable shackles (so I can actually setup the rear to sit slightly higher than the front when unloaded) and Bilstein 5165 shocks.

Prepare your arguments........go!

All sounds good except for the RE leafs. I liked my Alcans. But isnt Deaver the brand that supports Jeep speed? Why not run them in the rear?

why get rid of the deaver coils for RE's? the RE 4.5s run soft and will bottom out a lot... the Deavers are better.

the only coil I would run besides the deaver is a currie 4.5" progressive.

I am happy with my re 3.5" leafs... you're gonna want some relocation brackets and longer shackles though.

I absolutely can't stand Deaver as a company or the Deaver coils. They have to go. Hence the reason I'm not buying their leafs either.

Why the progressive Currie's? I thought progressives are fine for high speed stuff, but won't compress well while crawling.

I'll take a look at Alcan.

Why will I need relocation brackets?

Thanks for the input.

the benefit of progressives is that they can have a softer spring rate on the bottom to flex even better.

Alcan makes good products. talk to national spring as well.

the relocation brackets will give you the ability to adjust your shackle angle. the 3.5" leafs will put your shackle just about vertical at ride height. not great for ride quality or droop.

if you are dead set on RE 4.5" coils, 1990jeepxj has them and wants 5.5" deavers I believe. might be able to work out a trade.

I'm not stuck on the RE's. Any 4.5" spring would be acceptable. I'm not a fanboy of any brand at this point.

I'm not really looking for a trade. I'll sell him my springs, but I'm looking to put new springs on my XJ.

Thanks for the info.

If you are getting rid of the Deavers, check with Darky. I know he was looking for a set and got shafted by a fellow member on a purchase. He may be interested.

I know, I got cardboard on my springs too, I was pissed.

I've said it before, but I guess since you've been waiting over a year to drop that bit of helpful conversation, I'll say it again.

My opinion of Deaver is that their springs don't perform any better or worse than their competitors. They are however, the only company that I've every seen, that delivers a product that looks like a dirty turd.

If you don't like my opinion of Deaver, you're welcome to form your own.

I was asked why I wasn't considering Deaver leafs. I replied that the Deaver springs have to go because I want to get coils and leafs from the same company, and I will not be sending Deaver any more of my cash.
