Summit ignition kit.

I'm not looking to make serious horesepower. I just want a reasonably priced kit for reliability. I've read the search forum and got mixed reviews. I decided to go with E3 spark plugs(heard praises about them with a few 4.0 owners). Can anyone recommend a kit they were ver happy with? Don't wanna spend $80 on accel/Taylor or MSD wires. Thanks again.

let us know about the E3's, if you like them you would be the first person I have heard of who liked them enough to run them twice. Most people switch back to a conventional plug.

Ive got this kit on my 92.

+ The wires are thickly inuslated and have held up well over the past year.
- The rotor however has not done well. The rotor tip is thinner guage brass than a OEM. It becomes bubbly and burnt fairly fast.
Plus it didnt fit tightly to the shaft, the "foot" of the rotor was formed out of tolerance, should not rock side to side at all.

+ The Distributor cap's brass contacts hold up extremely well however, no burns, green shite or carbon tracks at all. Still sparkly, quite surprising to see the rotor erode while the cap is like new

I am running the MSD blaster coil, which is a decent piece of chinese bodging. The higher spark energy is probably why the rotor tip is getting fried.

If you go with the OEM cap and rotor, the cap has aluminum contacts. Aluminum is a much better electrical conductor than brass, but it erodes faster

Napa's Echlin brand cap and rotor are the nicest parts I've bought over the counter. The cap is alkyd plastic with solid brass contacts, the rotor tip is thick brass.

my buddy had good luck with the blue streak kit from advance auto. Looked nice, had brass terminals. I forget what he paid for it.

My stroker has a bone stock ignition kit on it, with a new stock coil, and off the shelf cap and rotor. I did splurge for the premium wires though. Using NGK plugs.

I have been looking into an ignition kit, but as long as mine is producing good spark very reliably, there is no reason to upgrade it.

I can't remember who / when, but I've heard it said by a few reliable sources that the stock ignition system should be good to ignite up to 300 horsepower or so. Unless you are looking for a reliability upgrade, you should be fine with the stock junk.

Quadratec has the accell tune-up kit for like 70$ has cap/rotor, plugs and plug wires (The 8000 series wires. I bought the kit a while back and its what I have. It's cheaper than their wire set alone.

i have the summit kit with motorcraft plugs and when i first put the summit kit i didnt know anydifference. it is a heck of a deal though. i havent had any other problems with it and have ran it for 7 months.

I used the Accel kit on the original engine in my beater, did not make anything magic happen but it didn't suck either. Nice steady kit.
The wires are better/fatter than stock, and for the price you can't beat it, really. I noticed a lil difference. I'd bet with a set of new 302 or LT1 injectors, would really notice some pep.

I doubt it, optimum spark is optimum spark. If the stock system is already delivering a spark that is strong enough, no more can be gained.

Any pep you notice will be from the injectors being better, not from the ignition system.

I ran a Jacobs pro street ignition for a little while in mine, have tried platinum plugs, and have tried multiple electrode plugs. Stock Champions or NGKs still work the best. I have a set of ACCEL 8.8 wires I installed 5 or 6 years ago and they are still holding up, everything else ignition wise is back to stock, and more reliable than any of the hundreds of dollars of performance junk ever was. I have heard of some good results with the complete ACCEL kit, but I've never seen one around when it was time to service my ignition.

I've used the accel cap, rotor, and coil in the past, but not the wires. The coil failed me w/in a year fyi(I've read of other failures).

I've actually seen the kit on the shelf at Advance auto parts, but never when I'm in the market for one.
I hsve seen it for sale at a few local parts stores, but is more spendy than ordering it online.

The kit doesnt include the coil, so thats not really a problem. Most people say that the stock coil will suffice, especially in Renix and OBDI 4.0L's.
