I have $4,000 to spend on the jeep and I know I am going to be getting steering, gears, wheels, and tires. So my question is: would it be better to peice a kit togther or buy a complete kit.

I want a long arm kit but don't really want a 6.5'' kit. Is it ok or possible to run a long arm kit with 4.5'' to 5.5'' inches?

Thanks,
Evan...

that kit is $2500, tires at my cost are gonna be about $800-$900, gears still thinking: 4.56 are $500 and have to pay someone to install them the gears. Plus buy shocks and wheels.

I would love to have that lift but its not gonna happen right now.

Any other suggestions?

have looked at Rustys 4.5'' spring pack + coil spacers and shackles
also looked at rough country 4.5'' with leaves + coil spacers and shackles

pick a cheaper 4.5" lift and then pick which long arm you want to do(or shoot even a nicer 4.5"). thats the route im trying to go, i think that would make since in your situation as well imo. that would put you just under 2000 dollars i think.

found the lift i am going with now just gotta firgure out what wheel size...

15x10 or 15x8

tires are 33x12.50/15

I have to say I agree with JR on this, spend your money on the suspension you really want, all the other stuff you find on "for sale" forums for cheap. I buy almost everything on forums, you would be suprised at all the brand new stuff you can find on forums from people who bought stuff then never used it. I just sold a crap load of 1 ton build parts that I bought off of Pirate, a lot of which was brand new. You can find pretty much evertthing you are looking for except complete suspensions with just a short search.:pirateflaI hope that helps, you will be kicking your self in the butt later on when you see how cheap some of this stuff can be had for.

Yes Pirate rocks... I am still kicking my self in the ass for selling my last xj and the axles I had with it.

Or if you feel you just HAVE TO have a lift that will fit 33's do what I did and put one together (I spent maybe $500 doing mine). I have 33's under it now with no issues (well, except that I need to set my bumpstops so my tires will stop getting cut up by the fenders hehe). Then save the rest of the money to get the lift you REALLY want.

As for wheel sizes, I'd say the X8's

My experience with Rusty's stuff is that it won't take a beating. We had to replace the track bar, tie rod, and drag link on DangerGirl's XJ and the bushings in the long arms are shot. It's all Rusty's products. (Just so you know, she's got like 9" of lift on 35's....and we've had trouble with all that, but the locked D35 in the rear still stands if that tells ya anything!)

I ended up odrering the 5.5" critical path long arm kit from iron rock off road. Ordered my gears aswell.
