Dusty work, but I kinda miss it sometimes. So this weekend I actually set a little time aside to work on my own XJ, since the bumpers are out getting powdercoated I decided to work on the system. Should have took some pics, had the interior gutted to lay sound mat, run wiring and put new front and rear components in. The amp is mounted, wires hooked up but haven't build the surround for it yet.

Sub box I cut out the side panel and made it a "snug" fit using MDF and fiberglass.

It's shaped that way to match the amp surround/cover, which I'll build probably this winter when I have some free time again.:confused1

Will we soon find a car audio section on your site soon? haha that looks really clean.

Yeah after seeing it completed I should have made the top piece less "jagged" but wanted to kinda match the style of the amp. The cover/surround for it was supposed to be about the same. Who knows, might end up redoing later down the road but for now it's good enough.

Have no clue how it sounds yet, all wired up but waiting on the firewall grommet and fuseholder for the main power. Driving me a little nuts too waiting.

How do you mount the box?

I want to upgrade my sound but anything I do needs to be difficult to steal because I sometimes take my doors off and they are always unlocked because they are broken... and of course jeeps are easy to break into also. I was thinking that I would mount the box with fasteners via the hole where the speaker sits in, and then to attach the speaker, I'd just find some security type fasteners that require a special screw driver to turn. Thoughts?

Well behind that on the floor there's a pinch seam that attaches the floor pan to the inner fender/quarter panel. I bent this over to a 90 and drilled/welded in a 1/4" threaded bung, 2 of them. Two 1/4" bolts through the bottom of the box and it's very solid, it took some effort just to squeeze it in there as it was.

You can get those security bolts that require the hollowed out bit to use but thieves can be poor losers. When I was doing audio/security for a living we'd see a lot of vandalism if the stuff didn't come out easy. I think it should be legal to install some probes all over the car and light them up with a good 100,000 volts should they break in.

Yea, how did it sound ? I want to do something similar with my 10" Type R, but I don't want to ruin the sound I have now.

that enclosure looks too small for a 12" L7, I just built a ported box off the kicker specs and it sounds kind of crappy compared to the 2 infinity 12's i used to have in a sealed box.

Not to drag up an old thread... but did you ever get this one up and going (I'm sure you did considering the age of this thread) but how does it sound?

I'm looking up ideas to build or buy a cubby hole subwoofer box for my '01 XJ. I'm personally looking for something to hide a good 8" or 10" sub.

Do you plan to build anymore of these boxes for consumer purchase?
